On Sept. 24, three Garden City High School social studies teachers boldly went where others have gone before, but they did it on their bicycles. Mark Quigley, Rob Wiedenhoft and Kevin O’Hagan joined Dr. Kenneth Jackson on his annual “All-Night Bike Tour” of New York City from midnight to 5 a.m.
Dr. Jackson, a Columbia University professor and acclaimed New York City historian, has organized the 14-mile tour for the past 22 years for his undergraduate students and was kind enough to extend the invitation to the three Garden City social studies teachers.
Starting at Columbia’s Morningside Heights campus at 116th Street, the group rode through Central Park, Times Square and Greenwich Village, finishing on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge. Along the way, the group stopped to discuss historic sites and participants had the opportunity to ask questions.
