Saturday, November 7

Harvest Fair

Shop at craft vendors, Corner Bake Shop, Stage Deli, Thrift Shop, collectibles and Christmas items. 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Floral Park, 35 Verbena Ave. Bagels with butter, cream cheese and jelly, doughnuts, coffee, tea or soda will be available all day and luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bake/White Elephant Sale

At Our Lady of Victory Church, Memorial Hall, 2 Bellmore St., from 4 to 6 p.m. The white elephant sale will include goods that are slightly used and in good condition. These sales will benefit the David School in Appalachia and the Smile Train. Also on Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Monday, November 9

Jonathan Mooney at The Park

World-renowned author and public speaker, Jonathan Mooney, will be coming to the Floral Park Memorial Library on parent-teacher conference day at 6:30 p.m. He is a dyslexic writer and activist who did not learn to read until he was 12 years old. He is a graduate of Brown University’s Class of 2000 and holds an honors degree in English literature. Jonathan is founder and president of Project Eye-To-Eye, a mentoring and advocacy non-profit organization for students with learning differences. Jonathan will meet with parents, students and teachers in the Floral Park Memorial High School library between the hours of 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.


Tuesday, November 10

Stewart Manor Homemaker Evening Chapter

Including Garden City, Franklin Square, Floral Park and West Hempstead communities) holds its meeting in the Stewart Manor Village Hall at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Country Auction held after the business meeting. All are welcome to attend. For more information call Gina Mignone 437-9679.

Floral Park-Bellerose School PTA Meeting

The next meeting of the Floral Park-Bellerose School PTA will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. School personnel will be on hand to address parents on the events currently happening at the school. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

FP Historical Society Anniversary Dinner

The Floral Park Historical Society will hold a fall fancy dinner party to celebrate its 10th anniversary at Bob’s Place Restaurant, 230 Jericho Tpke., Floral Park. There will be a short program to recognize the founders of the organization; entertainment will be provided by accomplished guitarist Leslie Poliner. The FPHS maintains a collection of artifacts at the society’s modest museum, located in Floral Park Centennial Hall. Members and the public are welcome to attend the society’s anniversary festivities to celebrate its accomplishments over the past 10 years. Limited seating. Dinner is $35 per person and includes appetizers, a choice of three entrees, dessert and soft drinks, coffee and tea. Make reservations before Nov. 3 and make checks payable to FPHS. JLCS PTA Meeting

The next John Lewis Childs School PTA meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served and babysitting will be provided. A raffle will be held.

Theatre Box of Floral Park presents the Tony-winning John Kander/Fred Ebb musical at the United Methodist Church, 35 Verbena Ave., Floral Park on Nov. 13, 14, 20, 21 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. The Nov. 15 matinee will be preceded by a 12:30 p.m. dinner. Fall Holiday Fair

Christ Lutheran Church, Plainfield Ave. and Spooner St., is having a Fall Holiday Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to purchase a wide selection of crafts, home-baked goods and other items from a variety of vendors. Bus Trip

The Floral Park Junior Women’s Club invites you to join them on the annual bus trip to the beautiful Victorian style Peddler’s Village in LaHaska, PA. With over 70 specialty shops and restaurants decorated for the holiday season and the beginning of the Christmas Festival, there is something for everyone. The bus leaves from the Floral Park Recreation Center on Dec. 5 at 7:30 a.m. and returns to Floral Park at approximately 9 p.m. Bagels will be supplied. Bring your own beverage. •Look Good…Feel Better, sponsored by LIJ Medical Center in association with the National Cosmetology Association, the Toiletry Fragrance Association and the American Cancer Society. The program reaches out to women with cancer and teaches them how to best apply makeup and wear their hair while undergoing cancer treatment. •Family Promise of NC. Are you concerned about helping homeless families in our local communities? You are invited to meetings for Family Promise of Nassau County, Inc., the third Monday of every month, at 7:30 p.m. at the New Hyde Park Baptist Church, 635 New Hyde Park Rd., NHP (352-9672 ). •Free/Low Cost Health Insurance. The residents of communities served by Mercy Medical Center will have the opportunity to apply for free or low cost health insurance for children, families and adults up to age 64 on the first Thursday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mercy’s Main Lobby. Staff from Catholic Charities of LI will assist you and our children applying for Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Medicaid Health Insurance Programs. The bi-lingual enrollers will screen adults for income eligibility for the state’s health insurance program Family Health Plus. Children are eligible for Child Health Plus. These programs cover medical check-ups, hospitalization, emergency care, prescriptions, vision and dental care.

•Zonta Club of LI, a member of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization with a local club. Members help advance the status of women and are involved in many community service activities. The name Zonta is word taken from the Sioux and stands for honesty, trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and understanding. At meetings members discuss and learn about issues facing women, develop and conduct fun fundraising that benefits community programs and network with Zonta International programs. •Art League of NC monthly meeting and demonstration by a guest artist. Meets on the fourth Friday of each month at the New Hyde Park Recreation Center, Clinton G. •Eating Disorders Association-LI (NEDA-LI) (formerly EDCLI) will be holding a support group for eating disorder sufferers and their families and friends. 10 to 11:30 a.m. at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset (ask at the main reception desk for location within the hospital).
