Garden City police are beefing up patrols on and around Meadow Street to help ease the concerns of residents there who have been on edge ever since a dead body was found on the front lawn of 65 Meadow Street.
Police have identified the victim, 24-year-old Jairo N. Vasquez, a Hispanic whose body was found at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Nassau County Crime Stoppers, the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad and the Garden City Police Department are seeking the public’s help in connection with the homicide and are offering up to $5,000 in reward money.
According to Garden City Inspector Kenneth Jackson, police held a meeting with approximately 30 Meadow Street residents regarding this latest incident and other criminal activity that’s taken place in the past. Extra patrols have been implemented in the vicinity, Inspector Jackson said.
Geralyn Groh-Szuba, a Meadow Street resident, told Garden City Life she never heard about the meeting but would welcome more police presence in her neighborhood. “Beefed up police patrols would be a welcomed thing,” she said. “I have noticed less police presence on this block over the last few years and I am concerned for my welfare and that of my children,” she said.
Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information about this homicide to call their toll free hotline 1-800-244-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous.
