The Race to Space
On Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. and Nov. 28 at 3 p.m. the Long Island Children’s Musuem will present The Race to Space. Does life exist in outer space? How can we tell? In 1970, the first remote controlled robot landed on the Moon, and since then, scientists have created a variety of machines called rovers to move around planets and asteroids to help us answer our space questions. Come learn more about their fascinating history, then create a model of one of the earliest prototypes of a NASA nanorover. Ages: 5 and up. Fee: $3 with museum admission. ($2 LICM members) All activities will be held at the Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old, $9 seniors, FREE to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply. Thanksgiving Dance in Aid of St. Patrick Fathers Missions
The 26th Annual Thanksgiving dance in aid of St. Patrick Fathers Missions will be held at the Irish American Center, 297 Willis Avenue, Mineola from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Music by Mickey Perry Band. The New Hyde Park Village Board will hold its next meeting at village hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park.
Voice of the Faithful
Northwest Nassau Parish Voice Affililate was formed by faith-filled Catholics in the wake of the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church to support victims of abuse, priests of integrity and to call for the restructuring of the church. Meeting from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Community Church of E. Williston, E. Williston Ave. and High St., E. Williston. Parking and entrance behind church, off Ward St. All are welcome. Speaker: Tim Echausse, LI coordinator of SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) will discuss the Child Victims’ Act Legislation and the role of the Bishops who are trying to defeat this bill. Other issues will also be discussed.

A Pancake Breakfast With Santa
The Garden City Park Junior Firefighters will host a Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at fire headquarters, 2264 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park. Breakfast to include pancakes with maple syrup, sausage, bacon, juice, milk, coffee and tea. Donations of $6 for adults and $4 for children will benefit the Garden City Park Fire Department Junior Firefighters.
Holiday Fair & Kidz Boutique
Temple Tikvah of New Hyde Park will hold its annual Holiday Fair today and Dec.13, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A new Kidz Boutique will have a variety of reasonably priced items for children and adults to purchase. Highlights include youth and handcrafted jewelry, holiday candy, toys, books and gift items for all occasions.

Eglevesky Ballet Nutcracker to Open at Tilles Center
The Eglevsky Ballet, based in New Hyde Park, will open its four performances of the Nutcracker at the Tilles Center. Today at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. and Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. Choreographed by the company’s artistic director Ali Pourfarrokh, the production is danced by the traditional Tchaikovsky score. The company is augmented by a cast of 66 of Long Island’s most talented young dance students selected through competitive auditions. Tickets for The Eglevsky Ballet’s 2009 production of Nutcracker, Saturday, December 19 through Monday, December 21 at Tilles Center, are $60, $50 and $35 (seniors: $57, $47, $32).
