Bartholomew “Barney” Aversano was born June 21, 1919 in Farmingdale. He was a resident of Hicksville, until 2001 when he moved to Sarasota, FL, where he passed away at the age of 90 on Nov. 1, 2009. A U.S. Army veteran during WWII, he served his country in Normandy-Omaha Beach, Battle of the Bulge. He then became a police officer with the Long Island State Park Police and was treasurer of the NYS Police Conference until he retired in 1989 after 42 years of service. Survivors include his son, Barney Jr., daughter-in-law, Debbie, and brother, Joseph of Farmingdale. He was predeceased by his wife, Macki, and sisters, Philomenia and Ann. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held Nov. 19 at St. Kilian RC Church with interment following at Calverton National Cemetery.
