Tree Lighting Set for December 6 at 6 p.m.

The Village of Williston Park’s Tree Lighting will take place on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. on the front lawn of Williston Park Village Hall.

All are welcome to attend. We are asking for local Scout groups, both boys and girls, to join us for singing Christmas carols around the tree, along with the South Shore Brass Band. Scouts- please arrive at 5:30 p.m. if you would like to participate.

Operation Santa is right around the corner. On Dec. 24, we will once again continue the tradition of visiting good boys and girls throughout the village. But we need volunteers to “help” Santa and drivers to get Santa where he needs to go.

Volunteers can send an email to ccarboine@willistonpark.org and you will be sent the details. Volunteers meet at Village Hall on Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m. and on your way by 6 p.m. It takes approximately two hours of your time to be Santa to your neighbors. We have Santa suits here, but welcome any volunteers with their own. The more volunteers we have, the quicker we are all done.

The Holiday issue of the Village Green is in the works. Residents should receive it within two weeks. I ask that all residents retain a copy of the holiday garbage schedule for future reference.

Families wishing to have a visit from Santa can also email in their name, address and approximate number of children in the home. Visits will occur between 6 and 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

You will leave small gifts for Santa in a bag on your front step, labeled with the child’s name. Santa will arrive at your home and deliver these gifts to your children.

We will also be having a calling in for Santa visit requests the week of Dec. 14 to Dec. 17 only. Starting Monday, Dec. 14 through Dec. 17 you may call 746-2193 and give your name and address for Santa’s list. We will not accept any calls or requests after Dec. 17. You may email the above address at any time before Dec. 17.

The Williston Park Fire Department has announced that it will be having a Christmas Tree Sale on Old Motor Parkway near the American Legion Hall starting this weekend. It will run for weekends (Friday through Sunday) up until Dec. 24. Please call the WPFD for further information.

“Coats For Kids” has begun in our area. This program, where new and gently used coats are donated for those in need (children and adults) and will then be cleaned at Randi Cleaners, runs through January 2010. A collection bin will be at Village Hall as well as Senator Craig Johnson’s office at 151 Herricks Road. Please look through your closets and help those in need.

There is also a Toys For Tots collection bin at the Village Hall for your donations of new unwrapped toys for needy children in the area.

The next public village board meeting will be on Dec. 2 at 8 p.m.

Our Senior Tax assistance will be held at Village Hall on Dec. 18 and Dec. 22 from 8 to 10 a.m. All seniors who are eligible for a village senior or veteran’s exception may come for assistance on these days, free of charge.

Please pay attention to street signs, stop signs and lights. Drive safely. The Village website is: www.villageofwillistonpark.org. See you around Town!
