Registration for Free Co-Ed Mall Walking Program Now Open

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Chris J. Coschignano recently announced that registration for the Town’s popular free Mall Walking Program is now open.

“Many of us exercise regularly in the summer, but not as much when the weather starts getting colder,” Coschignano said. “Walking is a wonderful form of exercise, something that can be implemented as a lifelong activity in an effort to stay active. The Town instituted the Mall Walking Program so everyone can have the opportunity to participate in this great form of exercise, regardless of how the weather is outside, and learn some valuable tips on how to get the most benefit out of walking.”

The Town’s Mall Walking Program begins Jan. 19 and continues through Feb. 25, 2010. Residents can participate at either the Broadway Mall in Hicksville or Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa.

“On Mondays and Wednesdays, walkers will meet at the Broadway Mall, in front of where Starbuck’s used to be located, near the entrance to IKEA, for a 10 – 11 a.m. walk,” Coschignano said. “On Tuesdays and Thursdays, walkers will meet at Westfield Sunrise Mall, on the main level in front of J.C. Penney’s, for a 10 – 11 a.m. walk. Those who are feeling really energetic can sign up for both courses.”

Coschignano noted that registration forms can be obtained at all Town Hall and community park facilities and at all local libraries. They should be returned to the park managers, to the Parks Department, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, NY, 11758 or handed in on the first day of the walking program.

“The Town’s Co-ed Mall Walking Program is the perfect way to start a new chapter of physical fitness in one’s life, resulting with a more fit and active lifestyle,” Coschignano said. “Mall walking would be an excellent choice for anyone who has been thinking about beginning a new exercise routine. It’s a positive step for your general good health and may give you the opportunity to make new friends in the process.”
