Congratulations to Kelly Pickard of Oyster Bay, who took 2nd place honors in the 50-54 Age Group in the Long Island Blood Services Rob’s Run, a 5 Kilometer Cross Country race held at Stillwell Woods Park in Syosset on Nov. 29.
Ms. Pickard crossed the finish line in 22 minutes, 50 seconds, only 14 seconds out of first place in that age group.
The weather couldn’t have been nicer, as sunny skies and pleasant temperatures welcomed the field of 642 finishers.
The Run was staged by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with GLIRC’s Jim Murray serving as the run director. The key sponsor of the run was Long Island Blood Services, with LIBS Executive Director Harvey Schaffler counted among the finishers once again this year.
Thanks also go to the Center for Developmental Disabilities and the Center’s wonderful Executive Director Nick Boba and Director of Development Debbie Patey for lending the use of the facilities at the center for packet pickup and the awards ceremony, to leading Syosset realtor Kathy Pisani of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty and Phil’s Pizzeria of Syosset as new sponsors of this year’s run in support of The Center. Thanks again to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and the staff of the Town’s Department of Parks and Recreation for their support, and for all the enthusiastic volunteers from the Greater Long Island Running Club for ensuring the success of the event. We were happy to have Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman (and Nassau County Legislator-Elect!) Rose Marie Walker for once again being on hand to congratulate the runners.
Hold the date for next year – Sunday, Nov. 28, and the 18th annual edition of Long Island Blood Services Rob’s Run!
