Division Avenue’s varsity girls’ soccer team is no stranger to success. This season, the Lady Dragons were conference three champions. This was the ninth conference title in the history of the Blue Dragon program and the first back-to-back titles since the 1993-94 school year.
The county playoffs are also a familiar experience for the girls as they qualified for the Nassau County Tournament this year for the 20th time in program history but advancing to the county finals were a first for the Lady Dragons. The Lady Dragons lost to the state champions, Southside High School, in the county final.
This season the Blue Dragons had a very talented team returning from last year’s conference, with only three freshmen being Alyssa Fiore, Taylor LeBright and Alexa Schneider.
Fiore was the starting inside left midfielder and Schneider helped anchor the defense at left outside marking back. LeBright was brought up to the varsity team halfway through the season to help in both the midfield and the defense.
The future looks bright for the Lady Dragons as they graduate only a handful of seniors and have a bulk of the starting lineup returning next fall.
