At the Dec. 15 Town of Oyster Bay Board meeting, the last meeting of the calendar year, the board voted on the second hearing of the morning, which was regarding a local law to fix the salaries of the supervisor, town board members, town clerk and receiver of taxes through Dec. 31, 2010.
The decision by the board was unanimous to give themselves raises, including support from Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker, who will not benefit from the pay increase as she leaves her seat Jan. 1, 2010 to start her new position as Nassau County Legislator in the 17th District.
The last time that the supervisor and board members received a raise was when they approved it in April of 2006.
As of Jan. 1, 2010, the supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay’s salary will increase from $125,000 to $140,000. The council member’s salaries will increase from $52,500 to $57,500. The clerk’s salary will increase from $92,000 to $102,000 and the receiver of taxes will increase from $100,000 to $110,000.
“The salaries of Town of Oyster Bay elected officials are in line and/or less than the wages earned by those in similar municipal positions,” said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto. “This is the first time in nearly four years that town-elected officials have received a pay increase.”
The salaries are fixed for the 2010 calendar year; and at the end of 2010, the board will then again have to have a vote regarding salaries – with two possible options being to either extend their current salaries or vote to increase them again.
