With the hint of snow in the air, but fortunately several hours before it hit the ground in the big Dec. 19 snowstorm, Chris Fedorczak of Hicksville created a storm of his own with his award winning performance in the 22nd annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run through the streets of Bethpage.
Fedorczak, who has been a dominating force in the 30-34 age group in road races in recent months, continued his string of great performances in the Ho Ho Ho Run. The 31-year-old speedster crossed the finish line at John F. Kennedy Middle School in 19 minutes, 54 seconds, to score in 22nd place overall and first in the 30-34 age group – 24 seconds in front of age group runner-up Gregory Tchabousky of Oyster Bay.
A total of 1015 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes made it to the finish line.
The Ho Ho Ho Run was conducted under the auspices of the Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) with Ric Diveglio serving as the race director. The Melville Intellectual Property Law Firm of Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt was the title sponsor, with Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW also providing a big financial boost.
Proceeds from the event will be turned over to The Opening Word, an education program conducted by the Dominican Sisters for poor and uneducated Long Island women to give them the tools they need to become productive members of society.
Thanks go to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman and Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker on hand to welcome the participants to the finish line.
“It’s great to see Chris and so many other of our Hicksville friends on hand for this year’s run,” said Diveglio. “It was a great morning and we were happy at the outstanding turnout.”
Mark your calendars for the 23rd annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010.
