Letter: Feels Decision to Run TV Ad Is Good One

CBS needs to be applauded with regard to its decision to air the 30-second ad this Sunday during the Super Bowl titled, “Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.” The personal story of Tim Tebow, the University of Florida star quarterback, and his mother, Pam, is about celebrating life and its potential. Tim’s mother was advised to abort him after she fell ill with dysentery on a missionary trip to the Philippines 23 years ago. She refused and gave birth to Tim, who has strived to be an ideal role model both on and off the football field.

Pro-abortion groups (who call themselves pro-choice) and perpetuate the culture of death are up in arms with respect to CBS’ decision. After all, the Tebows’ story keeps the face on human abortion and this is scary for pro-abortionists. Although not as widely known as groups such as the National Organization for Women and the Feminist Majority, the St. Anne Mother’s Prayer Group at St. Ignatius Loyola in Hicksville prays each week to defend life in all its forms. Our group who prays at Planned Parenthood, participates in America Needs Fatima and walks in Washington, D.C. at the March for Life each January is grateful to CBS and the Tebows for taking this courageous initiative to show that love is about taking personal responsibility. Love is about caring for others more than yourself.

As an avid follower of sports, former college athlete, wife and mother I eagerly anticipate viewing this ad with as many as 100 million other viewers during the Super Bowl. The St. Anne Mother’s Prayer Group will continue to pray for CBS to stand by its decision to go forth with the ad and also for Tim Tebow as he moves forward in his life and football career, while being judged and ridiculed for standing up for his beliefs.
