Astounding!
I approached the ticket seller at the Westbury Brush Hollow Stadium Movie Theater with my $20 bill in my hot little hand. I said, “Two senior citizens please” and laid my bill down. She said, “Twenty-three dollars please.” I was expecting $4 change but I now had to add three more dollars to my entrance fee.
I was astounded!
Lorraine and I were going to see Avatar, the blockbuster extravaganza, that was lauded by all our friends and acquaintances who had viewed it. It was directed by James Cameron, the brains behind the super colossal movie Titanic.
As I handed the two tickets to the ticket-taker, he handed me two pairs of Polaroid glasses.
I was astounded!
I placed the newly issued glasses over my own prescription eyewear and settled in my seat to watch this so-called amazing film. Personally I have never ever been a fan of “special effects” or “sci-fi,” and I try very hard to avoid them. But this movie came with such rave reviews, I had paid my $23 and I sat back hoping to be astounded.
I was astounded!
It was the tale of love and romance between a warrior maiden of a futuristic society and a crippled American Marine of our technological times. The scenery and the backgrounds are truly remarkable as they switched back and forth between primordial and the technological societies of today. The simple, futuristic people have a humanity that is absent in our modern combative and aggressive times. Love is the force that binds the two handsome sweethearts from two separate worlds. It was magical. The love connection transcended the crassness of one group and the ignorant, simplicity of the other group. There was much heart in this unlikely tale.
It was astounding!
Notice that I have not spoken of the 3D effects, which were extraordinary and extravagant. I was a disbeliever and a shunner of techno-movies. But it took genius to combine love and feelings with computers and science.
It was astounding!
