Union College junior kicker/punter Blaise Ancona of Garden City has recently received numerous awards for his efforts for the Union College Dutchmen football team. Along with six of his teammates, Ancona was named to the 2009 Liberty League First Team All Star Team.
Additionally, Ancona was named to the Third Team Special Teams D3Football.com 2009 All-East Region Team. The ECAC also took note of Ancona’s exceptional season, naming him to the 2009 ECAC Division III Northwest Football All Star Team. Ancona was the only punter selected for the team. At the 2009 Union College Football Player Awards Banquet, Ancona was named the Special Teams MVP.
Ancona averaged 39.2 yards on 40 punts. He was 24th nationally in punting and led the Liberty League in punting. He placed three punts inside the 20 in games vs. Muhlenberg and vs. St. Lawrence. He averaged 41.7 yards a punt on six punts vs. WPI, and averaged 43.3 vs. Ithaca. Ancona had four games with an average per punt of 41.7 or better.
