Floral Park to Hold Uncontested Election

Residents Still Urged to Vote March 16

This year, the Citizens’ Party Nomination Committee unanimously nominated its slate of candidates: Thomas J. Tweedy and James E. Rhatigan. Both candidates presently serve as members of the village board, along with Citizens’ Party members Mayor Kevin J. Greene, Trustees Mary-Grace Tomecki and Dominick A. Longobardi.

Trustee Tweedy seeks re-election for his fifth term as trustee. A life-long village resident and 29-year homeowner on the West End, he has served 25 years in the Citizens’ Party as captain, vice chairman and two-terms as chairman. As a member of the board of trustees, he currently serves as the Public Works commissioner and the liaison to the Buildings Department. Trustee Tweedy also liaisons to the Beautification Committee, the New Residents Committee, the Ethics Board, Plumbing and Electrical Boards. Tweedy has also served as fire commissioner, recreation commissioner, and library commissioner. He was a volunteer member of the Architectural Review Board and the Recreation Committee and was president of the Lexington School for the Deaf PTSA for three years.

Trustee Rhatigan seeks re-election to a two-year term as trustee representing the South Side section of the village. As a 30-year resident, he has served 12 years in the Citizens’ Party as a captain, vice chairman and two years as chairman. As a member of the board of trustees, he currently serves as the commissioner of the Floral Park Fire Department and as liaison to the Police Department. Trustee Rhatigan also serves as chairman of Floral Park’s Task Force for the Preservation and Improvement of Belmont Park. Additionally, Rhatigan is a village board liaison to the Heritage Park Committee, Beautification Committee and most recently, the Conservation Advisory Council. He also previously served as library commissioner.

The village elections are to be held Tuesday, March 16. Although this is an uncontested election, residents are urged to vote. The polls will be open from noon until 9 p.m. in the following locations in Floral Park: 1st District – John Lewis Childs School, Elizabeth Street; 2nd District – John Lewis Childs School, Elizabeth Street; 3rd District – John Lewis Childs School, Elizabeth Street; 4th District – Firehouse, Atlantic Avenue; 5th District – Recreation/Pool Building, Pool and Garage Road; 6th District – Firehouse, Holland Avenue; 7th District – Parochial School, Bellmore Street; 8th District – Floral Park Memorial High School; 9th District – John Lewis Childs School, Elizabeth Street;10th District – Firehouse, Holland Avenue; 11th District – Floral Park Memorial High School, Locust Street;12th District – Recreation/Pool Building, Pool and Garage Road.
