The Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce took part in the Polar Bear Plunge again this year. Theodore Roosevelt Park, the site of the swim, was a magnet for visitors on Sunday, March 7. The event is a benefit for the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County.
The chamber presented UCPN with a check for $1,000.
The parking lots were filled and police were busy directing traffic. People were gathered at the beach, bringing families and friends to support their swimmers.
At 2 p.m. when the swimmers took off, the crowd lined up along the gantlet – to see the action. One swimmer said the trick was to get in fast – and to get out faster. That was exactly what happened.
Past president of the OBCC Alex Gallego, financial advisor, branch manager, The Alex Gallego Group of Stifel Nicolaus, was one of the swimmers for the fourth time. “Why not, it’s a lot of fun for a good cause. It is a great thing to help to support the chamber which was helping UCPN,” he said.
