The Garden City Chamber of Commerce invites members of both the business and residential community to hear – for the first time in Garden City, the newly elected County Executive Edward P. Mangano, keynote speaker at the chamber’s luncheon program on Thursday, March 25 at the Garden City Hotel. The county executive’s address will focus on his central campaign promise: to reform the County’s property tax assessment system.
In a recent talk before the members of the Nassau County Council of Chambers, Mangano outlined the myriad challenges that lie ahead. But job one, he said, is fixing assessment, a system he has repeatedly criticized as a legislator. This, he said, is directly related to job two: stabilizing the county’s long-term finances. These, along with other issues that impact Garden City and all of Nassau County will be on the agenda for discussion.
Ed Mangano was elected to the position of Nassau County Executive this past November following five terms as Nassau County Legislator for the 17th Legislative District. Recognized for innumerable accomplishments, Mangano fostered the revitalization of the former Grumman Property, where he was instrumental in restoring more than 1,500 jobs to the site; he established a senior citizen and community center in the 17th Legislative District; assisted in creating a high-tech small business incubator, established a youth program and played a key role in and provided leadership for myriad projects relating to environmental issues, land preservation and ground water protection.
Among Ed Mangano’s honors and recognitions are the Humanitarian of the Year Award from Family Residence and Essential Enterprises (FREE); induction into the Long Island Business News’ “40 Rising Stars Under 40 Class of 2001,” and was named “Legislator of the Year” by the Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter 82. Mangano received the Nassau Council of Chambers Small Business Person of the Year Award and Hofstra University’s “Alumni Organization’s Estabrook Award; an honoring at the Children’s House Tee-Off for Kids; and has received the Citizenship Award from the Knights of Columbus Hartigan Council. The county executive has also received the Hicksville Youth Council Award and Community Leadership Award from Boy Scouts Troop 604.
Mangano has been active in many charitable and fraternal organizations; was a board member of the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce and served as past president of the Bethpage/Plainview Rotary Club.
The luncheon program, to be held in the grand ballroom of the Garden City Hotel, will commence at 11:30 a.m., with the traditional business showcase of various member businesses and professions combined with a reception-networking period.
