Beauty and the Beast  

This coming weekend, March 19. 20 and 21, the Disney musical classic, Beauty and the Beast comes to the Oyster Bay High School Performing Arts Center through the efforts of the Oyster Bay High School Fine and Performing Arts Department. The show times are Friday, March 19 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 20 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. The event starts with a special Dinner and Theater Package offer by the Friends of the Performing Arts Center (P.A.C.), before the performance.  Enjoy a French-themed dinner in the OBHS cafeteria. Tickets for the dinner and the show are $30 for adults and $20 for students. Regular tickets are $10 for students and seniors; $12.50 for adults in advance and $15 for adults at the door. Coe Hall Concert

Enjoy exquisite chamber music with Ensemble Schumann in the historic Gold Coast mansion Coe Hall, at Planting Fields Arboretum, at 2:30 p.m. Chamber ensembles perform without amplification in the Great Hall, a room with outstanding acoustic quality. The concert features Sally Pinkas, pianist; Steve Larson, violist; Thomas Gallant, oboist. Free Down Syndrome Lecture

“Theory to Therapeutics in Mice and Men with Down Syndrome.” The Down Syndrome Community of LI invites you to show your support and attend a lecture in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day at 3 p.m. in the Grace Auditorium at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, One Bungtown Rd., Cold Spring Harbor. Opening remarks by Congressman Steve Israel. Closing remarks by a representative of the National Institutes of Health. Learn about how recent studies are beginning to identify the gene(s) responsible for cancer, congenital heart defects and cognitive impairment. Down syndrome research is now on the brink of helping not only those with Down syndrome, but all individuals touched by cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and cardiac defects. Keynote speaker Roger H. Diane Yatauro Meets With Bayville Residents

NC Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) has scheduled a rigorous series of meetings throughout the 18th Legislative District to “bring Nassau County home to constituents.” The district includes Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Locust Valley, Jericho and Brookville. She will be in Bayville from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bayville Community Center. Legislator Yatauro will be available to meet personally with residents of the 18th Legislative District.

Artwalks

The Oyster Bay hamlet will be “the place to be” on the first Thursday of the month between 7 and 9 p.m. The program offers artwalks in the local galleries that will be open and featuring exhibitions of artists from around the world. Other businesses in the downtown area will also be showing artwork. Restaurants will be offering 20 percent off on meals; wine-tastings; burger and beer specials; along with indoor and outdoor music and art. Cafés and restaurants will be open for dessert and coffee specials and will also have art displayed. Currently Jessica Semins is a regular Thursday evening performer at Fiddleheads. She plays the fiddle and offers Irish songs as well as original songs. The artwalks will begin at Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) followed by a visit to the Atelier Gallery Fine Arts. 9 E. Main St. (205-0907) and The Teaching Studios, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404) which will also be open offering a workshop evening and a tour of their facilities. Also on May 6, June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, Sept. 1, Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.
