On Tuesday March 23 the Nassau County Coaches Association held its annual girls’ basketball awards dinner at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. The girls of Division Avenue High School came away as the big winners of the night! The Lady Dragons were recognized as Nassau County Class “A” Champions, Long Island Champions, and NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team.
On top of the team awards, the Blue Dragons walked away with many individual awards as well. Christina Rea was selected to the All Conference Team. Kristen Stuart and Taylor Malings were chosen for the All Class Team. Stuart also received the MVP award for the Nassau County Championships. Julie Ballantyne was selected to the All County Team as well as receiving the sportsmanship award at the state semi-finals. Nicolette Parmese and Kristen Costello were picked for the All County Team as well as the All New York State Team.
The Basketball Coaches Association of New York also chose Kristen Costello, Nicolette Parmese and Julie Ballantyne as All State Scholar Athletes. Parmese was conference player of the year runner up, an All State Tournament selection, and was also selected a top 10 percent scholar athlete by BCANY. Kristen Costello was also nominated to the top 50 players in New York State.
With these types of players on the team it is no wonder that the Division Avenue Girls’ Basketball Team finished the season ranked third in New York State.
