From Up Here
Presented by the Nassau Community College Department of Theatre & Dance. As From Up Here begins, it seems like an average school-day morning in an American suburb. It soon becomes apparent, though, that high school student Kenny Barrett did something that has everyone worried. Kenny is returning to school after being suspended for threatening his schoolmates with violence. Kenny himself just wants to make it through the rest of his senior year unnoticed, which is going to be hard, since he has to publicly apologize to the whole student body. This is a darkly funny play about a family limping out the door in the morning and coming home — no matter what. It suggests that there is a path back to well-being for the families of teenagers who come dangerously close to destruction. Performances May 6-9 and May 13-16 at 8 p.m. each day except Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $9; discounted to $7 for seniors aged 55 and over and children under 18. College students with valid Spring 2010 ID will be let in for free when purchasing tickets at the door. Call 572-7676.

You Have Options!
In 1982 Options for Community Living, Inc., was established to help respond to the need for supportive housing for people living with mental illness. As the Mental Health Residential Program continued to expand, Options began serving homeless families as an emergency shelter provider in 1990. A few years later, Options opened a comprehensive case management and housing program for Long Islanders with HIV/AIDS. A small not-for-profit organization with humble beginnings has since grown to serve over 800 individuals and families with special needs across Long Island. With offices in Hempstead, Smithtown and Riverhead, help is easily accessible. For more information or to offer support call 631-361-9020. Visit www.optionscl.org.
