In what proved to be a perfect spring evening for a baseball game, the mighty Cardinals once again displayed strong pitching, reliable fielding and patience at the plate against an impressive Marlins team at the Merillon Complex. Pitching ace Philip Chang was not only dominant on the mound as he struck out the only 3 batters he faced, he also drove in 2 runs and scored a run while John Napolitano had another solid pitching performance and contributed offensively with his first home run of the season, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Christopher Carbone, solid on the hill with a strikeout, also added to the offense with 2 runs scored and was followed by an impressive performance from first-time pitcher Matthew Rivera who continues to swing a hot bat with a single and his third double of the season. Joseph Dampman also made his Upper Farms pitching debut and contributed two solid innings on the hill with 2 strikeouts while adding to the offense with 2 singles, 2 stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored. Tyler Dauble continues to impress behind the plate at catcher and also drove in a run on a single while Anthony Treadwell drove in 2 runs on his first hit of the season. Defense was also the name of the game as catcher Scott Schanter snatched a dribbler in front of the plate and quickly turned around to tag out the runner trying to score, Matthew Notine cleanly fielded two hard hit ground balls to second base and AJ DeVito snagged a hard line drive hit to shortstop. Spencer Horowitz, Richard Song and Aditya Jindal combined for 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored while each flashed the leather in the field. Go Cardinals!

In what proved to be another exciting game, the mighty Cardinals displayed power pitching, an offensive surge and speed around the bases against a talented Rangers team at the Merillon Complex today. Despite battling a stomach virus, ace John Napolitano pitched a scoreless 2nd inning with a strikeout and later crushed his second home run of the season, a grand slam. Philip Chang had another solid pitching performance and added to the offense with a single and an RBI while Christopher Carbone pitched a scoreless 3rd inning with 2 strikeouts and contributed offensively with a single, 3 stolen bases and an RBI. Matthew Rivera not only followed with another impressive pitching performance but continues to swing a hot bat with his first home run of the season, a grand slam. Joseph Dampman closed out the game with an inning of his own on the hill and showed speed around the infield with 2 stolen bases after leading off the top of the 5th inning with a hard hit single. Outstanding defense was also on display as Tyler Dauble handled a quick throw from the shortstop and applied a perfect tag on a runner sliding into third base to end the 3rd inning; he also scorched the base path with 3 stolen bases of his own. Scott Schanter continues to impress in the infield as he snagged a sharply hit line drive to second base to start off the bottom of the 5th inning while Matthew Notine continues to hone his craft at second base as he cleanly fielded a hard hit ground ball to just nail the runner at 1st base. Spencer Horowitz, AJ DeVito, Anthony Treadwell and Aditya Jindal combined for 3 RBIs and 5 runs scored while each flashed the leather in the field. Go Cardinals!
Dennis Barber Shop River Sharks” 3 The Ducks and River Sharks tied in hotly contested game; in which Zach Schreiber pitched 3. 2 strong innings and was relieved by Greg Kyro’s 2 innings. Zach also led the offense with 3 hits and 2 rbis and was supported by Greg Donovan’s hit and rbi, Vin Rossello’s hit and run scored, and Tyler Weiss’ hit. The defense had key plays made by David West at third, Harris Monoson at second and Frankie Saladino behind the dish. Call-up Jordan Grief was a big help to the Ducks.
Plain & Fancy Landscaping Bears (10) vs. Dominick’s Deli Pride (2)
Great game today by the Bears against a tough Pride squad. The Bears defense and hitting today were key. With the Pride up 1-0 and ready to rally for more Christian Carrick made a dazzling catch in centerfield off a ball smoked by the Prides batter. More web gems were to follow as Mike Lopez went up the middle and robbed the Pride batter of a hit. Pitcher Michael Varrone took a rocket off his glove to throw out yet another Pride batter. RJ Donohue was rock solid at the plate tagging out a runner attempting to steal home. Lou Plomitallo was solid as usual at first base. The Bears sneaked out a few runs on steals of home by Nevin Nambiar, Peter Tagios and Mike Lopez. Jarred Kossover and Nick Zovich took ones for the team that led to a big inning with the highlight being Michael Varrone’s grand slam. Go Bears!
NHP Knights of Columbus #2852 Merillon Minors Dragons (15) vs. Manhasset 2 (14)
The Merillon Dragons came out fast right out of the box and became victorious today. The star players of the day was Kristen Renta with solid defense behind the plate and great hitting going 2-3 and Parker Spector-Salwen with good hitting and fielding throughout the game. Tremendous hitting came from Nicole K., Madison S., Silvana S., and Brittany L. We had much improvement in the field by Una R., Cassidy L. and Michaela Z. Today’s game was a pure team effort and I was very proud and happy they hung in there won the game in the final inning. I see so much potential; I’m always looking forward to the next game. LET’S GO DRAGONS!!!!!!
Baxter’s Sports Shop Rangers vs Sportography Cardinals
The Rangers won a nail-biter against a very strong Cardinals team. Dean Vayias ripped two doubles and scored twice while Alex Russo tripled and scored to lead the offense. PJ Vayias had another strong outing on the mound and made a couple of clutch catches in the field. The Rangers were solid on the basepaths with Sean Rice and Raymond Gresalfi also plating runs for the team. Julian Montenegro came through and ended the game with the winning RBI. Great game Rangers!
Gigi’s Pizza Marlins vs. Hillside Beverage Rockies
The Marlins and Rockies played a thriller at Merillon on this sunny Saturday. Kenny Gensch started us off on the mound with a perfect inning, then later added a single, double, and three RBI. Elliot Weissman fanned five over two strong innings, and Jake Blancher also pitched a solid inning including a strikeout. Paul Fadoul had a great game, getting on base twice and fielding a hard grounder at third base. Matthew Baronci also continued his valuable all-around play. Eric Madenberg snared a line drive at second base to end the Rockies’ threat in the fourth inning. Leadoff man Joe Santos was on base three times, stealing two bases and hustling to score an important run. Chris Bruccoleri singled and hustled to second in the third inning, plating a run. Dylan Kareff drove one in with a long drive to right field and made an impressive putout at first base. Sean O’Connor crushed a single to right and added two RBI on the day. Ivan Vidaich also reached base twice and had two RBI. And Charlie Goodwin had the walk-off hit in the fifth inning to score a speedy David Klebanow, who had walked to lead off the inning.

Ridgewood Savings Bank Mariners (13) vs. Modell’s Pirates (3)
The mighty Mariners extended their winning streak to three games with an offensive show that featured a total of sixteen hits highlighted by a long triple by James Castaldi and a 3 for 3 night by Dominick Picccirillo. Also contributing with the bats were Joe Dunn with a double and a single, John Denara and Charlie Hwang with two singles each, Harmon Takhar, Jimmy Denara and Michael Zuschlag with a single each and Bradley Sheen, who reached base twice and scored each time. Clutch hit of the game came in the fourth when Gregory Capelle laced a bullet between short and third to cap a six run inning. Danny Kosofsky continues to impress on the mound, working two innings and striking out five. Not to let the bats do all the talking, the Mariners also flashed some leather in the third when Alex Bracco caught a moon-shot deep in right-field to keep the powerful Pirates at bay.
Merillon Notre Dame CYO Lightning 13 vs Manhasset 7
On a beautiful spring evening, the Lightning put together a true team effort for their first victory of the season. Jenna Marshiano started on the mound and did a nice job getting the ball over the plate and keeping the ball in play. Sophia Leeds came on in relief for 3 innings and was outstanding, getting 5K’s, fielding several plays, and only allowing 2 unearned runs. The hits just kept on coming, led by the towering bats of Casey Sanders, who led the night with 3H including a solid double and Mariella Facibene who wacked a monster double into the outfield. Isabella Fazzolari 2H, Jenna M. 2H, Hannah Kareff 2H, Natalie Patrey 1H, Sophia L. 1H, Gia Maniaci 1H, rounded out the evenings hit parade. Kasey Borduas, Emily Bidner, Rachel Moss, and Monique Vavro all used patience at the plate and walked to get on base, stealing bases and scoring runs. All the girls played good defensive ball including a double play to end an inning.

Another great effort was put forth by the Rangers this week. Joe Judge made his pitching debut and pitched great. PJ Vayias had another fine outing on the mound as well. Dean Vayias and Stephen Guy led the offense while Harrison Nettler, Spencer Kern and Zach Timmons played well on defense.
Salmon Limousine Services Rays 19, Costello’s Ace Hardware Reds 1
The 2010 Rays morphed into the 1927 Yankees in a powerful hitting display during their 19-1 win over the rockin’ Reds. The Rays pounded out 4 home runs, from Jared Schwartz, Matt O’Connor, Andrew Kadish and Jacob Leventhal, and had additional offensive help from Jordan Greiff (multiple hits and a terror on the base paths), Joey Jacobs, Jacob Seidenberg and Ryan Hodes. However, this was not just an outstanding offensive effort. The pitching, led by Jacob Seidenberg, Matt O’Connor and Jacob Leventhal, kept the hard hitting Reds at bay most of the evening. To round out the excellent performance, the Rays’ defense was outstanding, thanks to nice work from Andrew Kadish and Matt O’Connor (who combined to gun out a runner at the plate to squash an early bases loaded rally), Jared Schwartz, Jack Tucker and Brian Volk (who all had another strong game behind the plate), Joey Jacobs (great catch in the OF) and Jared Hodes (solid in every position he played).
Salmon Limousine Services Rays 8, Modell’s Pirates 1
The Rays played a fundamentally sound game on Sunday and defeated the powerful Pirates 8-1 to secure their second straight win to start the season. The Rays were led on the mound by the “Generation J” trio of Jordan Greiff, Jacob Seidenberg and Jared Schwartz, who combined to allow no earned runs and for the most part kept the Pirates off the bases. Offensively, the Rays maintained the pressure on the Pirates the whole game and scored in every inning. The whole team got into the action at the plate, led by the power batting of Michael Telsey (multiple extra base hits), Andrew Kadish (long triple), Ryan Hodes and Karan Thadhani. In the field, excellent defense was turned in by Jack Tucker (snaring a line drive at 2B that was destined for extra bases), Brian Volk (2 strong innings behind the plate), Joey Jacobs, Jacob Leventhal and Jared Hodes.
Gair, Gair Conason, et al. Braves vs. Virgilio Chiropractic Padres
It was a great game by both teams. Offensive stars for the Braves were Matthew Farkas, Andrew Wang, Ryan Wasserman and Luke Notine with 2 hits each. Gold glove award of the game goes to Alan Birnbaum. All the other boys contributed to a great team effort.

The Marlins and Cardinals played a fun and exciting game on Tuesday night. A number of Marlins shined in the field. Matthew Baronci had two great innings as our backstop, blocking the plate and holding Cardinal runners with darts down to third base. Charlie Goodwin made a snare and unassisted putout at first, and Sean O’Connor also continued his solid fielding with a nice play at first. David Klebanow caught a tough liner at shortstop. Jake Blancher made a major league stop at second base to prevent a run from scoring in the fourth inning. And Christopher Bruccoleri handled a tough grounder at short and fired to the sure-handed Kenny Gensch at first for the out. Elliot Weissman continued his scoreless inning streak, pitching from the stretch to bring the heat. The hitting star was Ivan Vidaich, who lined a double to centerfield. Paul Fadoul had a solid at-bat, and Joe Santos had a key walk and stolen base in the third inning. Eric Madenberg added a hard single to lead off the game. And Dylan Kareff again hit the ball on the nose each time, remaining a force in the middle of the lineup.
