TOPSoccer
The TOPSoccer Program is getting into tiptop shape and the play on the field shows it. The senior contest this week was a nip-and-tuck battle. The blue team found themselves in a hole as Andrea Matteo and Adam Strominger had the first two goals of the game for the green team. Not to be deterred, the red team settled down to business and went to work. Goals by Billy Russo from a corner kick and one more from the ever dependable Stefani Egre knotted the game. Kendall Toomer kept the green attack going all day with his tireless charges. On the other side of the field, Andrea Cellucci was a dynamo as she took on all challengers, big and small, for the red team.
The junior players were equally matched as their game ended in a 3-3 tie. Team Pokey had goals by Kevin Chan, Tommy Ko and Nick Nazariegos and great midfield play and a few assists by Kyle Hanratty. Tristen Yang was a standout on defense with super hustle. Team Gumby came back with goals by Mary Glass, Chris Cooney and Sammy Duggan. Goaltenders Petros D’Amico and Nick Mininson were sensational! The defense was anchored by Angel Dibinis, Josh Hom and David Baumgarten. Rich Bletsch, Director

Gu10 Game Summary: Nhp Lady Pumas -5, Locust Valley – 0 A great way to end the month of April with a resounding win over a quality Locust Valley squad that was hungry for a victory and played a very spirited game . This game goes to show you that when we put multiple shots on goal, good things happen. Kaitlyn Krems was fired up for this game and made LV pay early and often with 2 quick goals (a PK goal and then a nifty left-footed karate kick goal) and an assist off a beauty of a corner kick. Sophia Leeds was the recipient of the corner kick and she slammed it home to make it 3-0 at the half. Sophia would then assist on Casey Sanders’ low-liner that made it 4-0 early into the second half. Cara Becker, who had another outstanding game, then got into the act with a lone line drive that skidded past the goalie to make it 5-0 before Izzy Glennon tallied the topper with a beautiful slashing drive on goal to finish the game 6-0. The defense of Mackenzie Griffin (who has played fantastic in her new role as central defender), Stephanie K (5 turn-aways), Katie Krems (multi-tasking) and Theodora Papadoniou was super and denied several nice chances by LV to score. In goal in the first half and the end of the 2d half was Casey Sanders who stopped everything that came her way – including a point blank PK shot to preserve the shut-out. Edna Dudek played the middle part of the game in goal and she too stopped everything LV threw at her. Keep up the nice work, ladies!
