TOPSOCCER
Another terrific day as the ranks of the TOPSoccer Program continue to swell. The seniors played a very competitive game but the blue team won out 4-2. Brett Tirado scored 3 goals and Adam Strominger added one more. Matt Saraiva and Billy Russo provided the red team’s offense with one goal each. The junior contest was also a close game. The Tornadoes had goals by Kevin Chan and Tommy Ko. The Lightning answered with 2 goals by Sammy Duggan and one by Petros D’Amico. Petros also provided some great goaltending for part of the game. Tough defense by Jamie Chan.
Now that we have many new parents, many of whom probably never player soccer, it is strongly recommended that they start preparing now for the end of the season’s parents vs. the players battle. With a history almost as futile as the Chicago Cubs (37 straight loses since the inception of the program), it would be pretty embarrassing to be defeated AGAIN. Maybe this group can turn it around. – Rich Bletsch, Director

NHP Wildcats Tornado Tigers 3 vs. POB Inferno 1
On a perfect day for soccer at I Park in New Hyde Park the Tornado Tigers took a 3-1 win over a talented POB inferno team. Debra Keller had a tremendous game, scoring a goal and shutting out the Inferno for 3 quarters of the game while playing in goal. Maggie Donnelly opened the scoring in a nice shot off a crossing pass from Milla Skugor. Emma Blancher scored for the Tornado Tigers on a gorgeous play in the second half. Samantha Merino made a strong pass up the left side to Emma who executed a beautiful give and go with Nicole Farishian who was playing center forward. Emma took the pass back from Nicole and placed a kick into the short side corner to give the Tornado Tigers the 2-0 lead. After POB cut the lead to 2-1 mid way through the second half Debra Keller gave the Tornado Tigers a 3-1 lead on a powerful kick from the top of the box. That turned out to be the final score as the defense for the Tornado Tigers was too strong for POB. Led by Kim Keblish, Samantha Merino, Abby Wizel and Danielle Gerbe the defense played outstanding again. Abby had a terrific all around game playing all 3 positions and just missing a goal on an excellent play kicking the ball just wide of the post. That play was the result of a steal by Maya Castro and good pressure in the box by Natalie Kariotis. Jennifer Morrone, Kristin Granieri and Julia Gordon controlled the ball at forward keeping pressure on the POB defenseThe Tornado Tigers are now 2-1 with a tough game this Saturday in Wantagh.

NHP Lady Pumas 4, Jericho 2
The NHP Lady Pumas continued their hot scoring streak (10 goals in the last 2 games) with a dominant 4-2 win against a spunky and talented Jericho squad. Izzy Glennon was our offensive juggernaut on the day with 3 goals (hat trick) and an assist, including a PK goal and a superb give and go goal set up with Katie Krems. Katie had a super game as well, getting us going to our first goal of the game (deflecting off a defender), assisting on Izzy’s 1-2 goal, and sending numerous passes across the mouth of the goal that our players just missed getting to. Cara Becker (nice runs), Theodora Papadoniou (2 near misses), Sophie Leeds and Casey Sanders each had several nice chances to score but came up just short. Sophie Leeds made some super passes to set up fast breaks. On D, Mackenzie Griffin continued her fantastic play as our central defender, while Stephanie Karczewski, Cira Crehan and Isabel Ugolini played extremely well on the outside. Isabel did a fantastic job of coming back and breaking up fast breaks that could have resulted in goals for Jericho. In goal in the first half was Casey Sanders who has developed into a top-notch part time keeper and she only gave up 1 goal (that was perfectly placed). Same thing for Edna Dudek in the 2d half – beautiful stops on some point blank shots and it took a perfectly placed near post shot to beat her. Keep up the hot streak ladies!
Soccer Shooters vs. Wonder Cats –
It was a very exciting, tough match-up between the Soccer Shooters & the Wonder Cats. In the first minute of play, the Soccer Shooters had a great attempt at a goal as Madeline Slaksi takes a nice shot that was saved but as she followed thru was able to take another great shot which bounced off the cross bar. Great Follow Thru Madeline!! They were ready for a good game of soccer as the defense led by Joanna Mauceri, Aria Nair and Marcela Curcio denying the Wonder Cats many chances to score as they closely marked their opponent clearing the ball up the field. Irene Krische played terrific in goal making multiple great saves & quickly punting the ball up the field. Strong mid-field play by Daniela O’Modie and Sabrina Rodrigues trapping, controlling and dribbling the ball around their opponents as Daniela O’Modie with an assist from Sabrina Rodrigues shoots a high ball for the first goal of the game. The Wonder Cats were playing smart, but the Soccer Shooters stepped up and with an assist from Madeline Slaski, Marina Pappas kicks a great low ball near the right post. Great Teamwork!! Then Sabrina Rodriques who was on fire today got control of the ball was able to get around a couple of defenders, one and one with the goalie kicks a terrific ball away from the goalie. Great Goal Sabrina! The Wonder Cats were not to give up as they got on the score board making it close game as Marina Pappas scores a great goal from a beautiful cross from Joanna Mauceri. The Wonder Cats on fire tied up the match at the half. Positions changes for the second half of play, debuting in goal was Alexandra Gootman who played a phenomenal game as she came forth to meet the ball, mixing it up a little, switching the sides of play as she either punted or thru a rolled ball to one of her defenders who then controlled and kicked the ball up the field. Irene Krische playing the player, marking her opponent closely clearing the ball to the mid-fielders Rhiannon Chieffo and Orna Kidanian who played extremely strong in the second half, staying close to their opponents, holding their positions well & placing long high throws-in to the open spot. Daniela O’Modie playing aggressive today gets a nice ball from Orna Kidianian and nets a great goal for the lead. Not long after did Joanna Mauceri break up a play and take a run down the field makes a another great cross to Marina Pappas for her third goal of the game. Congrats to both teams for a great game of Soccer! Thank you to all our family & Friends for cheering the players on! Missing the help of Gabriella Caicedo.

Galaxy 2 vs. Thunder 0
The Galaxy goal tending duo of Eric Rossi and William Nikas were outstanding in shutting out a strong Thunder team for a 2-0 victory. Eric made a terrific save on a penalty kick and William had a few excellent saves as well. Led by Matthew Chung who had several nice tackles to stop Thunder, the defense played terrific. Chris Carbone and Nick Duras were awesome on defense. Shawn Chacko opened the scoring midway through the first half with a powerful kick on a scramble in front of the net. Shawn played an outstanding all-around game, playing well on defense, at midfield and at forward. The second goal was scored by Eric Rossi just prior to halftime on a strong direct kick from Thomas Donnelly. Joe Judge made a spectacular save in goal for Thunder but Eric was there to bang in the rebound. Tommy Fitzpatrick was excellent at forward for Galaxy, narrowly missing a goal on an outstanding cross pass by Nick Duras.
