Penny Social at Episcopal Church of Ressurection
The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 147 Campbell Avenue at Center Street, Williston Park will hold a Penny Social. Broke, with a café bill to pay, Lee Perrotta, an art student traveling through the south of France, offered to wash dishes. Her kitchen duty not only paid for her meal, but she soon had a regular job – and an idea what she wanted to do with her life. After a few delays and sidetracks, Perrotta is now doing what she’s wanted to do since being trained as a chef in that café Twenty-five years ago. She’s married her two passions, art and chocolate, into RR Chocolate, a startup run out of her Bellmore home.

New Hyde Park, announce a Joint Civic Association meeting to be at the Manhasset-Lakeville Firehouse, on 78th Ave. located at the corner of Stewart Ave. beginning sharply at 8 p.m. with speaker: Hon. George Maragos, Nassau County Comptroller. Maragos was elected as the Nassau County Comptroller in November 2009 and was sworn into office on Jan 1, 2010 for a four-year term. Prior to his election, Mr. Maragos was in private industry in senior management positions in Banking, Consulting and Information Systems. As a founder and President of a financial firm he guided its growth for the last 20 years. He holds an MBA (1983) from Pace University in NYC, and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree (1973) from McGill University in Montreal. Refreshments will be served.

At “Spinner’s Grinners” Laughter Yoga Club, members take part in a series of laughter, breathing and playfulness exercises with many, many health benefits. New Hyde Park Village, VFW/ American Legion Parade
The Village of New Hyde Park, in conjunction with the VFW and American Legion will hold its Annual Memorial Day Parade. The parade will assemble on Hillside Boulevard to step off at 10 a.m. Head east on Jericho Turnpike. Stop at New Hyde Park Village Hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike for a ceremony then proceed north on New Hyde Park Road to Lincoln Avenue and the New Hyde Park Village Memorial Park for the completion of the ceremonies.
Town of North Hempstead Fire Works at Beach
The Town of North Hempstead will hold its Annual Fire Works display in a 2010 salute to veterans at North Hempstead Beach Park (formerly Bar Beach), 175 West Shore Road. Festivities to begin at 6 p.m. Parking fee is $5 per car. Everyone welcome. Park opens at 3 p.m. Nassau County Pipe band and military lead off ceremonies to honor veterans. Following are Gabrielle Ross, Desert Highway and Tramps Like Us. Bay fireworks will then light up the sky from barges located in Hempstead Harbor in the darkness.
