Book/Bake Sale
The Doubleday Babcock Senior Center is giving you two reasons to come and visit them at its location at 45 E. Main St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a book sale and bake sale. The book sale will feature best sellers, fiction and non-fiction hard covers as well as paperbacks from $2 and $1 respectively. The bake sale will include all home-made cakes, cookies, donuts and other goodies just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. For more information Call 922-1770. Also held on May 28.

Brothers Bike for Animals
Brothers Jonathan and Michael Small will be undertaking their annual 88 mile bike ride to help raise money and awareness for Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center of Huntington. The grueling ride, that will begin in Port Washington and finish in East Hampton, is expected to take 10 hours. Jonathan and Michael will be peddling at around 5:30 a.m.. The brothers are asking animal lovers to donate to Little Shelter by collecting sponsorships or making a pledge every mile that they ride. Slavic Arts Ensemble String Quartet
The String Quartet of the Slavic Arts Ensemble will commemorate the bicentennial of the birth of the most celebrated Polish composer, Frederic Chopin, with a special all-Chopin program arranged for strings by M. Gubernat. 2 p.m. at the Cold Spring Harbor Library, 95 Harbor Rd, Cold Spring Harbor. Free. All welcome. This event was canceled in February due to snow. Call 631-692-6820. Memorial Day Parade
Quentin Roosevelt Post #4 of the American Legion will hold its 91st annual Memorial Day Parade. assembly time is 10 a.m. and the parade will start at 10:30 a.m. The assembly areas are along South St., Adams St. and Burtis Ave. If any group would like to participate or if anyone has an antique or classic car and would like to help transport veterans, contact Reginald Butt 922-7135. Prior to Memorial Day, the Legionnaires will have been distributing poppies at Stop & Shop and will have a table set up in front of the Legion building on South St. On May 30, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold services at four locations: Memorial Field, TR’s gravesite at Youngs Cemetery, Sagamore Hill at the memorial for Quentin Roosevelt, and in front of the Italian-American Club. On Memorial Day there will be a service by the water at Ships Point Ln., during the march and at the memorials in front of Town Hall East as the parade ends at the Derby-Hall Bandstand in Townsend Park.

Spring Lecture Series
Friends of the Bay will hold its Spring Lecture Series at its offices at 2 Townsend Square. Doors open at 7 p.m. and lectures start at 7:30 p.m. The lectures have been interesting and well attended with refreshments and talk before and after the event. Lecture: Oyster Bay has a very rich maritime history and John Hammond of the Oyster Bay Historical Society will educate and inform the audience about it.

Artwalks
The Oyster Bay hamlet will be “the place to be” on the first Thursday of the month between 7 and 9 p.m. The program offers artwalks in the local galleries that will be open and featuring exhibitions of artists from around the world. Other businesses in the downtown area will also be showing artwork. Restaurants will be offering 20 percent off on meals; wine-tastings; burger and beer specials; along with indoor and outdoor music and art. Cafés and restaurants will be open for dessert and coffee specials and will also have art displayed. Currently Jessica Semins is a regular Thursday evening performer at Fiddleheads. She plays the fiddle and offers Irish songs as well as original songs. The artwalks will begin at Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) followed by a visit to the Atelier Gallery Fine Arts. 9 E. Main St. (205-0907) and The Teaching Studios, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404) which will also be open offering a workshop evening and a tour of their facilities. Also on July 1, Aug. 5, Sept. 1, Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.
TR and the Trail
The exhibit will open with a gallery reception at TRA Gallery, 20 Audrey Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. All proceeds from the sale of art will benefit the Theodore Roosevelt Association and its many charitable enterprises. The exhibit runs through July. Call 921-6319 or visit www.curatorialservices.com.

Woods Walk
Sharpen your powers of observation – a woods walk led by Dan Kriesberg, inspiring naturalist and science teacher. You’ll be amazed what you can see and hear and learn when you practice paying attention. 2 to 3 p.m. at Bailey Arboretum in Lattingtown. No charge, but donations appreciated. Learn an easy care method for growing healthy dahlia plants and techniques for supporting large healthy blooms and sturdy stems at a 7 p.m. Dahlias 101 class.
