Irish American Monthly Dance

S.T.O.P. Program of North Hempstead in Port Washington
The Town of North Hempstead reminds residents to take advantage of the upcoming Stop Throwing Out Pollutants (STOP) program at the Solid Waste Management Authority at 802 West Shore Road in Port Washington, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can return items such as aerosols, household chemicals, pesticides, disinfectants, fertilizers, bulbs, thermostats, batteries, cell phones and computers. Please bring OIL BASED PAINTS ONLY. Latex and water-based paints, once dried out (usually 24-36 hours after the lid is removed) can be placed in a trash bag and thrown out with your regular household garbage. Latex and water-based paints will not be accepted at the S.T.O.P. Collection site. Oil based paints are considered hazardous, and will be accepted at any S.T.O.P. Collection Day program. Following the very successful debut of the Town’s Pharmaceutical Drop-off program on June 6, 2009, residents can also dispose of outdated and unwanted pharmaceuticals in an environmentally friendly and safe manner at every S.T.O.P. date and location. North Hempstead offers the opportunity to properly dispose of recyclable and non-hazardous waste, electronic waste, batteries, compact florescent bulbs and other recyclable items free-of-charge every Sunday at 999 West Shore Road in Roslyn from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information, please call 311.

MS Cocktails for A Cure Fundraiser at Walk Street
Michele Chambers and Donald Barbieri, in conjunction with the National MS Society will hold a “Cocktails for A Cure” fundraiser at Walk Street (former Henry’s Inn), 1218 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park from 4 to 7 p.m. Admission (donation) is $25 for adults; $5 for children. Entrance fee includes food and two drink tickets. Fundraiser to include music, food, drinks, raffles, kids tattoos. All proceeds will help fund vital research, more effective treatments and ultimately a cure for MS.

St. Aidan Summer Stage is set to hold auditions for its forthcoming production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! under the direction of talented director John Hayes, of Williston Park. Legislator Bosworth to Host Women’s Health Care Discussion
Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) is pleased to be able to host Neeta M. Shah, MD FACP, Vice President of Women’s Health, North Shore-LIJ Health System and The Katz Institute for Women’s Health in the 10th Legislative District. Dr. Shah will lead a discussion entitled: “Be empowered…It’s Your Time…Take Charge of Your Health,” in which she will suggest practical, non-threatening ways to relieve the stress and tension that all women experience in their lives. Legislator Bosworth believes this discussion will benefit younger women caring for babies and toddlers, middle aged women caring for both their children and their parents and older women who are dealing with the effects of aging. She asks women who are always putting their children, spouse and parents first, to please stop and take care of yourself. Join Legislator Bosworth from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Manhasset Public Library. Dr. Shah has agreed to stay and address personal concerns individually after the lecture.
