The Farmingdale Dalers Lacrosse team captured the Nassau County Class A Championship last week by defeating the Massapequa Chiefs 9-8, in a tough battle at Hofstra Stadium.
The Dalers were trailing the Chiefs 3-0 before Sal Tuttle put the Dalers on the scoreboard early in the second quarter. With goals by Danny Rogers , Kory Hendrickson and Patrick Starke, the Dalers went into halftime with a 4-4 tie.
Danny Rogers scored first in the third quarter to give the Dalers their first lead of the game 5-4. Four minutes later the Chiefs would tie it up again 5-5. The Dalers scored goals within two minutes by Danny Rogers and defenseman Joe Ostrander for a 7-5 lead. But again the Chiefs would come back with a goal to be within one.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Dalers lead 7-6, but Sal Tuttle scored with 11:03 left to get back the two-point lead. The Chiefs Dylan Sheehan scored at 7:43 to make it 8-7. Seven seconds later Brian Prendergast would score for the Dalers to make it 9-7. It was one of those games where one team could not get that big lead. The Chiefs Rob Goeren scored with 5:53 left in the game 9-8.
The Dalers defense played strong, keeping the Chiefs from scoring in the last five minutes. With good ball control, the Dalers were able to run down the clock, and capture the Nassau County Class A Championship. The Dalers will have taken on West Islip on June 8 at Hofstra for the Long Island Class A Championship. The state semifinals are on June 10 at Hofstra and the state finals are on June 12 at Stony Brook.
