The Lady Dalers lacrosse team defeated the Massapequa Chiefs last week at Hofstra 16-5 to take home their fifth consecutive Nassau County Class A title. Jamie Leone, Meagan Meritz and Kim Kolodny each had three goals, while Melanie Raso and, Krislyn Engelke had two goals. Alyssa Cardillo, Kyra Ochwat and Colleen Reynolds each scored a goal. Goalie Alex Gurecki had 11 saves to lead the Lady Dalers into the Long Island Class A Championship game.
If that wasn’t good enough, on Sunday, June 6 the Lady Dalers won their fifth consecutive Long Island Class A Championship by defeating Bay Shore 13-9 at the Dowling Sports Complex. Bay Shore was up 2-0 before Krislyn Engelke scored at 20:39. Twenty seconds later Melanie Raso put one in the net to tie it up 2-2. The Lady Dalers did not take their first lead of the game until Krya Ochwat scored with 32 seconds left in the half to make it 6-5. Krya scored the first goal in the second half to give the Lady Dalers a 7-5 lead. Whenever Farmingdale got a two-goal lead, Bay Shore would get one goal. At 11:07 Bay Shore scored to make it 10-9.
The Lady Dalers Defense got tough and kept Bay Shore off the scoreboard the rest of the game. The Lady Dalers offense came up big with goals by Meagan Meritz at 8:50, Melanie Raso at 8:19 and 7:12 to make it 13-9. Goalie Alex Gurecki had six saves to keep the Lady Dalers in the game and to get them back to SUNY Cortland to defend their New York State Class A Title.
They will play Section V champions Pittsford on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at SUNY Cortland. The state finals will be Saturday, June 12. For more photos go to www.elegantphotos4u.com
