Dalers Lacrosse Stopped In Long Island Finals

The Dalers Lacrosse team lost to the defending state champs, West Islip, for the Long Island Class A Championship on June 8 at Hofstra. West Islip has been Long Island Champs for five out of the last six years and state champs three out of the last four years. The Dalers knew they had their hands full.

The Dalers, who had a strong offense, could not get it going and were shut out for three quarters. The defense played strong by holding down West Islip to two goals the first quarter and three goals the second quarter. For three of those goals the Dalers were a man down. Being down 5-0 at halftime was not so bad for the Dalers; they were still in the game.

West Islip came out strong and scored seven goals in the third quarter to take a 12-0 lead. The Dalers’ Greg Catalano finally scored at 6:04 of the fourth quarter, making it the only goal for the team, The Dalers’ goalies Hayden Kirk had ten saves and Mike Palmer one. They were not able to stop Nick Galasso of West Islip, who is the leading scorer of the state. The Dalers, Nassau County Champs, were defeated by West Islip 13-1. West Islip went on to win the State Class A Championship again this year. For more photos go to www.elegantphotos4u.com.
