Fred K’s Cancer Event
The Traveling Baseball Babes, with the assistance of the Oral Cancer Foundation and Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation, will participate in the first annual Fred K’s Cancer event, walking the 2 miles of the Cantiague Park’s Fitness Trail alongside the event’s honorees and namesakes, Fred Ahne and Fred Leone, friends, family members, and supporters. Donations will be split between the Oral Cancer Foundation and Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation. 9 to 11 a.m. at Cantiague Park, W. John St., east of Cantiague Rock Rd., Hicksville. Junior Apprentice Program
Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, is one of the area’s truly unique properties, allowing visitors to travel back in time for a day and experience life inside a recreated 19th-century Long Island village, complete with dozens of historic homes and townspeople in period costume. This summer, youngsters ages 9 through 12 can immerse themselves in that environment for a week through OBVR’s Junior Apprentice Program. There are four one-week sessions the weeks of June 28, July 12, July 26 and Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The fee for each session is $230 per child and participants are limited to one session only. Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School
Hicksville United Methodist Church, 130 W. Old Country Rd., Hicksville, invites all children to Galactic Blast: A Cosmic Adventure Praising God Vacation Bible School. Board the spaceship Galactic Praise to see the awesome universe (and God) in a whole new way. The fun begins July 26 and ends July 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. Each Galactic Mission begins with a Bible Story in the Good New Galaxy, along with science activities at the Orbital Observatory, music at Moon & Tune, art projects at Cosmic Crafts, games at Rocket Rev and a snack at the Astro Bistro. •Family Support Group, an ongoing support group for those who have family members or other loved ones with mental illness. Meets on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Nassau Guidance & Counseling Services, 950 South Oyster Bay Rd. The fee is $5 per family. •POB Senior Citizen Club meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays in the All-Purpose Room at the Jamaica Avenue School, 85 Jamaica Ave. For information call 937-6424. The club offers trips, cruises, parties, social and line dancing, art courses for all levels, craft classes, card games, bingo, horseracing, yoga, education programs, etc. Members must be 60 years or older, residing in the POB S.D. are eligible.
