TOPSoccer
Only one week left to go as the TOPSoccer Program got ready for the end of the season ‘parents vs. the players’ match. With World Cup fever in the air and the players smelling yet another victory, the athletes were in top form. The juniors battled to a 0-0 tie and went to a shootout, which may come in very handy for next week’s game. The Superheroes’ roster consisted of Tommy Ko, Kevin Chan, Jamie Chan, Nicolas Mininson, Desmond O’Callaghan and Mary Glass. Nick Nazariegos, Kyle Hanratty, Alex, Laroia, Tristan Yang, Petros D’Amico, Josh Hom and Soph Gianakis made Up the Lightning. The shootout ended in a tie also, 5-5. The seniors had a warm up game with the parents/coaches, winning 4-3. Matt Saraiva powered home 2 goals, while Andrea Matteo and Brett Tirado added one each. The parents struggled to scored 3 times and their skills were rather inept. They clearly ran out of steam, which does not bode well for next week. The parents were way too casual as many did not take the opportunity to gear up for the BIG game. Only time will tell how this strategy will play out. The loss total may easily swell to 38! U-10 Game Summary:
NHP Lady Pumas-5, Wantagh – 0
The girls continued their hot streak (7 in a row) with a tidy 5-0 win against a fiesty Wantagh squad looking to play the spoiler late in the season. The girls would have none of that however, and came out ready for bear – putting up 2 quick goals to take control of the game. We were up 5-0 early into the 2d half before we turned off the jets. The offense was led by Casey Sanders (1 goals, 2 assists), Sophia Leeds (2 goals), Kaitlyn Krems (1 goal, 1 assist), Cara Becker (1 goal, 1 assist), and Kira Crehan (1 assist). Great distribution of the wealth. The defense was led by Mackenzie Griffin, Theodora Papadoniou, Isabel Ugolini, and Stephanie Karczewski who made life more enjoyable than normal for our goalies and did a fine job carrying the play up field to support the attack. Edna Dudek played the first half in goal while Sophia and Theodora took turns in the second. Each made their share of tidy saves. Izzy Glennon – we missed you.
