Baymen Win Fourth Straight Year as Nassau County Champions
The Oyster Bay High School Varsity Baseball Team won its fourth consecutive County Championship with a two game sweep of Locust Valley in the best of three series.
It was a beautiful day on an immaculately groomed field at Adelphi University on Tuesday, May 25 as Jake Robinson took the mound. The Baymen were leading the series one game to nothing coming off a 2-0 victory the day before with Chris Kelly on the mound, who pitched a complete game shut out.
Jake Robinson pitched an excellent game striking out six through five innings. Although the Baymen never trailed in the game, Locust Valley kept it close until Dan Roland came to the plate in the top of the 5th inning with two outs and two men on base. He drilled a monster home run over the center field fence. There was no looking back as Joe Siringo took the mound as a closer and shut the door on Locust Valley’s season.
Dan Roland and Jake Robinson were picked as co-players of the game.
Over at Mitchel Field on the same day, the Lady Baymen Varsity Softball team evened their County Championship series with a walk off home run by Joshlyn Grant to win the game.
The Baymen advanced to the Long Island Championship game played on Sunday, June 6 at SUNY Farmingdale but lost. The Baymen were the home team for the one game ‘winner take all’ championship.
