Blessing of the Riders

Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. (corner of Grant Ave.), will welcome the Lighthouse Harley Chapter of the Long Island Motorcycle Club at 10:45 a.m. for the annual Blessing of the Riders. Rev. Julia Y.H.Yim, Pastor, will officiate at the event, which last year drew over 100 riders and spectators. The community is invited to attend. Living Faith Christian Church is having its first Vacation Bible School in its new building at 25 Hempstead Tpke., Farmingdale, from June 28 through July 2. Earthkeepers Camp

Will be offered by Starflower Experiences in Sweet Hollow Hall, West Hills County Park, Melville, from July 5 to 9 from 8:45 a.m. Ten and 11 year olds will visit Mama Nature’s Munch Room, meet a “Spec,” dig up a buried time capsule and earn four keys to help them live in harmony with the earth and understand how the systems of life on earth operate. The keys open real locks on boxes containing secrets only Earthkeepers know. This incredibly dynamic, fun program helps young people learn about and care for the earth. Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School

Hicksville United Methodist Church, 130 W. Old Country Rd., Hicksville, invites all children to Galactic Blast: A Cosmic Adventure Praising God Vacation Bible School. Board the spaceship Galactic Praise to see the awesome universe (and God) in a whole new way. The fun begins July 26 and ends July 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. Each Galactic Mission begins with a Bible Story in the Good New Galaxy, along with science activities at the Orbital Observatory, music at Moon & Tune, art projects at Cosmic Crafts, games at Rocket Rev and a snack at the Astro Bistro. The Women’s Financial Group

Hosts a Networking Mixer on July 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Carlyle at Bethpage State Park. Every TWFG member is encouraged to bring a friend from any industry at the member price. Ongoing Programs

Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center

A social day care program offering socialization and stimulation to persons 60 and over. The caring staff provides innovative activities for those who can no longer attend regular senior centers because of physical and/or mental impairment. It also affords respite to caregivers allowing them valued time to devote to matters of home or personal needs. This interfaith service meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. Support groups are also held once a month on Wednesdays. Free Educational Services

Free courses and academic advice is available to economically and educationally disadvantages adults. The LI Educational Opportunity Center offers programs leading to employment in a variety of fields as well as entrance to college. The LIEOC has satellite units in many areas. SUNY Farmingdale Offers Free Instruction

In college preparation including: English, reading, math, biology and chemistry, preGED/College Prep. reading and math; business education including: word processing and computer literacy; health care programs, nurse assistant training, clinical training given in area nursing homes, phlebotomy, high school equivalency, English for international students, adult basic education and more. At the Farmingdale Wantagh Jewish Center

•Learning the Torah and Haftorah Trops on Mondays at 7 p.m. Instructor Rabbi Alan Lavin. This is a practical course for those who can read Hebrew to learn how to participate more easily at services and lead prayers. The course is open to all men and women.

•Beginners Hebrew course, sponsored by Hadassah, will be held at on Mondays at 7 p.m. Instructor Murray Zwerling. For those who would like to learn or improve their basic Hebrew reading.

•Introduction to Jewish Prayer on Mondays at 8:15 p.m. Text: To Pray as a Jew by Rabbi Haim Donnin. Instructor Rabbi Alan Lavin. The course is designed for those who would like to learn the history, meaning and structure of the siddur.

•Sisterhood Book Club – If you have an interest in reading, the Sisterhood Book Club is for you. Join other women to discuss interesting books. Call the synagogue office for more information about the Book Club and Sisterhood events.

Adults and Children With Learning Disabilities

ACLD, a private not-for-profit agency, is offering individual and family counseling for the primary caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities. Support groups are available for parents and siblings and new groups for senior parents, parents of transitioning high school students as well as a group for parents who have a developmental disability. Groups are held during day and evening hours and will be facilitated by a social worker at 807 South Oyster Bay Rd., Bethpage. Call Florence Horne 822-0028, ext. 167.

Nursery School Registration

Farmingdale United Methodist Nursery School is accepting registrations for the 2010 school year for its two, three or five day a.m. and p.m. classes for children 18 months through pre-K. The school provides a stimulating environment where emphasis is placed on the individual child’s natural growth and needs and attention concentrated on broadening mental, emotional, social and physical development in a nurturing atmosphere that enables young people to grow through Christian living experiences and learn respect and concern for themselves and others. Children are exposed to a variety of paint, chalk, dough, cutting, coloring, writing, music, books, story time, cooking, play group, computer and other activities in addition to outdoor and indoor large motor activities and walking distance field trips. That is the invitation being sent across LI by Hope for the Future Ministries, a Farmingdale-based not-for-profit organization which helps the poor and homeless.
