Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School
Hicksville United Methodist Church, 130 W. Old Country Rd., invites all children to Galactic Blast: A Cosmic Adventure Praising God Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School

•The Community Program has a group for senior citizens. The Golden Years? The group is open to all people over 60 who are dealing with issues related to drugs or alcohol. This is an opportunity to talk confidentially with your peers as well as having the support and guidance of a skilled professional. Medicare and most other insurances are accepted. •A support group for those who have family members with mental illness meets Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. The fee is $5 per family. Therapeutic and supportive services to people hampered in their functioning by mental illness, psychological difficulties and/or substance abuse and addiction problems is provided. Among its services, the agency provides outpatient mental health services for children and adults living in Nassau County. HUMC Food Pantry Open
Hunger is a real issue facing our local area. In response to this need, the Hicksville United Methodist Church, 130 Old Country Rd., opened a food pantry. The pantry is open on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Non-perishable foods, paper goods and hygiene items are given to our neighbors in need. Contact us if you can help in any way. Help for Seniors
Are you a senior who would like help paying for your Medicare benefits and prescription drugs? Free assistance is only a phone call away if you qualify for extra help because of limited income. There may be a way to alleviate some of the cost of Medicare – deductibles and coinsurance, Part B premiums, prescription drug plans (Part D). Reducing monthly premiums, annual deductibles and co-payments, aiding with coverage gaps (the doughnut hole). Helping Hand for Caregivers
Caring for Caregivers is a nonprofit committee founded out of concern for those members of the community who are providing 24-hour care and supervision for a loved one in their home. The goal is to provide up to eight hours of professional respite care each month. The application process is need-based, easy to complete and respectful of the caregiver’s privacy. Once the application has been approved, the caregiver will contract with the agency of his/her choice for provision of service, for four hours during any two-week period, up to a maximum of eight hours per month. Applications are currently being accepted from the Plainview-Old Bethpage, Bethpage, Syosset, Woodbury and Hicksville areas. The committee’s hope is that these few hours will provide a little breathing space so that the caregiver can attend to his/her own needs. Call Sara 698-9750 for an application.

The Pretty New Thrift Shop, 238 Main St., Farmingdale. The shop supports the work of Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc., a multi-service mental health and substance abuse agency located in Hicksville. Walls of Honor
Need a gift for your favorite veteran? The NC Veterans Memorial Fund Inc., a nonprofit organization (not affiliated with Nassau County or any government agency) offers all veterans throughout the US a place on the “Walls of Honor.” These walls are located at Veterans Plaza, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. It is for those living and deceased who served our county during war and peacetime. Space is available for those interested in including their name or that of a loved one. Proof of military service and a contribution of $100 per name is required. A 50 word or less military biography on each person on the wall will be housed in the veterans tower if requested.
