I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped make the 48 hour event during the weekend of June 11-13 a huge success. In a short three weeks and with less than $1,000 we were able to transform the lower Audrey Ave. extension into a vision that we could all agree upon. I would like to first thank our board members and executive director for agreeing to take on such a huge undertaking. In addition, I’d like to thank Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce, RR Museum, Town of Oyster Bay, Do Tank: Brooklyn and other community partners who took time out of their busy schedules to create a pedestrian mall, RR plaza, a pop up store and cafes during the 48 hour event. Without all of their hard work and effort, this visioning process would not have been possible. The steady flow of residents and visitors alike to this often quiet area of town was very encouraging and the feedback was extremely positive. We were able to prove that this part of town is the connection to our beloved waterfront and could be an economically, aesthetically pleasing viable part of the downtown.
As we move forward in the next 48 weeks, months and years, I encourage all the stakeholders to continue to move forward with the vision that was created during this wonderful event. I am looking forward to seeing our vision become a reality as new businesses and a possible Farmer’s Market move to the area.
