The Krug Insurance team played their last game of the season against the NHP Elks Club. They can look back at all of the great lessons they learned this season- working together as a team; supporting their fellow players; doing their best in playing the game; and most importantly, having fun.

The New Hyde Park Athletic Association Girls 10U softball team finished off an impressive 11-1 season with a doubleheader sweep of the Long Island Sharks to take 1st Place in the NJBL Nassau/Suffolk League. This was the first time a NHP softball team has ever captured first place in this extremely competitive tournament. These girls are really fun to watch as they play all parts of the game with passion and excitement. The pitchers are dominant, showing off the results of a few years of pitching lessons with Coach Monte. The defense makes great plays every game, showing off their ability to catch and throw with the best of them. Their offense is off the charts good right now showing off their hard work with the coaches through the winter at the batting cages and all year long. They run the bases aggressive and smart, and they get better every inning of every game. Besides being terrific softball players, they play the game with class and sportsmanship, cheering after every game for the other team, win or lose.
The secret to their success is scoring early and against the Sharks the NHP girls did it again scoring in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Kayla Fitzpatrick led off with a single and scored when Hannah Arkin followed with an RBI double. The team would not need much more offense after that as Jenny Hickey again pitched lights out striking out 10 batters in 5 innings of pitching on the day. Jenny also had 3 hits and 4 runs scored on the day. Fitzpatrick pitched terrific in game 2, striking out 5 batters in 4 innings for the win while collecting 3 hits and scoring 4 runs on the day. Arkin had two doubles and two runs scored in the 2 games. Maggie Donnelly and Ann Grimshaw powered the middle of the lineup while each catching and playing 3rd base. Donnelly had a beautiful catch off a hard line drive in the first inning while collecting 4 hits and scoring twice on the day. Maggie also ended game 1 by picking off a runner at third while catching. Ann Grimshaw was playing third on that play then returned the favor in game 2 picking off a runner at third to Donnelly to end the game and clinch first place. Grimshaw threw out 4 runners on the day and had 3 long doubles and 6 RBI. Samantha Merino pitched an inning and also had a hit and a few runs scored on the day. Sheila Krische had 2 hits and 4 runs scored on the day. Irene Krische was on base twice and scored a run. Sophia Jacoby had a hit and scored 3 runs while playing solid defense at shortstop. The team welcomed back Emma Nidermaier who had been out with a broken foot the last month. Emma came back in mid season form with 3 singles. Katie Tubridy had 2 hits and 4 runs on the day. Katherine Chwe added a run for the team. Melissa Ward and Gabby Morales led the cheering section for New Hyde Park. Both girls are out with injuries but they each played a key role this season for the team. The team was also missing Jamie Mooney and Felisa Bronzino who each played well for the team during the season.
