Madison Petrizzo Knows Oyster Bay
Madison Petrizzo called to identify the mystery picture in the July 8 issue of the Enterprise Pilot. She said, “It’s the Bonanza stand!” Her mother Rose said Madison knew because, “We go there all the time.”
Gregory Adami said, “It is ‘Chink’s hot dog stand’. In the 1920s it used to be called ‘Chink’s Ice Cream Italian Ice Stand’, located on the corner of Audrey Avenue, and opposite the post office. My mother went there as a kid in the late 1930s and my grandmother in the 1800s when it started off as ‘Chinks’. In the late 1970s it went on to be called the Bonanza Hot Dog Stand.” [He added that his name was incorrect in the last issue, for which we apologize.]
And, we should also mention that the community had a penchant for politically incorrect nicknames in the early 1900s.]
Billy Minicozzi said, “It’s outdoor furniture in a bar in Oyster Bay.” On a sports note he said, “Good luck to LeBron James in Miami.” He has chosen to play with the Miami Heat creating a trio of players with LeBron, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, something LeBron said he was looking forward to doing.
Angela Fox said, “It is the corner of the Bonanza Stand in Oyster Bay!”
Paul Keller said, “It’s a picture of chairs on Audrey Avenue by the gazebo and opposite the post office. It looks like the street is blocked off so it could be on a Cruise Night.”
It was a very good observation. The photo wasn’t taken on a Cruise Night but it was taken the day of the Brooke Jackman Run and the Oyster Bay Health Fair for which the street was closed to traffic.
