The golf tournament on Thursday, Aug. 5 seemed like it would never happen. The forecast called for thundershowers. When we got to the golf course, the skies were very heavy with clouds. It did rain for about two minutes. Then the skies cleared and the sun came out. We had the hottest day of the year on the golf course. The scores reflected the heat. Forty-two men showed up, a good number considering the weather forecast. We had only 20 pars and one birdie by Ray Onorato on the 272-yard, par four, seventh hole. Only six men shot under net par and three more shot even par. The next round for Match Play will be on Thursday, Aug. 19. For those men still in it, please find your opponent and sign in together.
Shot of the day—I did not witness this shot, but I wish I did see it. Frank DeBello hit a booming drive on the sixth hole that ricocheted off a tree and bounced back onto the fairway, which resulted in the longest drive of the day on that hole.
Low Actual Score – Ray Onorato; Low Net Score – Bob Lasky; Low Flight A – Marty Tout; 2nd Low Flight A – Jim Murphy; Low Flight B – Pete Johnson; 2nd Low Flight B – Mike Galgano; Longest Drive – Frank DeBello; Closest to the Pin – Bob Evans.
The next tournament will be on Thursday, Aug. 19. Sign in begins at 7 a.m. Competition on the nine-hole course is divided into two divisions. Flight A is for players with a handicap of 13 or less.
