The Oyster Bay Historical Society threw a great party in the style of the Gold Coast on Saturday, Aug. 28. The event was held at the lovely home of OBHS President Frank Leone and his wife Stefanie.
Guests mingled by the pool and in a lovely white tent (with clear arched windows creating atmosphere and light).
The music was by Bob Merrill’s orchestra and they are a true throwback to north shore glamour. There were lovely auction items donated by Mort Künstler; Christina’s Gourmet; Frank Leone; Grace Searby; Sterling Equities; the Montauk Yacht Club; and many local restaurants were also very generous.
There was also a live auction that included an event at Raynham Hall Museum for hors d’oeuvres and wine for 50 people catered by Jack Halyard’s (the former Fiddleheads). It was originally won by Frank Leone at the Raynham Hall Museum gala and he donated it to the OBHS event.
The story is prescient in that one non-profit is helping the other. As Phil Blocklyn, OBHS executive director, said, “In the future we will be working together with Raynham Hall Museum on shared trips from school children. It will work very well. There is no doubt we will be compatible on anything we do together.”
Helen and Charles Dolan attended the event, and it is their generosity that is making the Angela P. Koenig Research and Collections Center become a reality.
It was good to see people going home with their raffle winnings, knowing the funds generated will help with the matching grant. We can’t wait for their next event. They keep getting better and better. And for a great cause.
