Beautification Project Underway at
William Henighan Memorial Site
On Tuesday, Aug 24, the Island Trees Board of Education held the final special meeting of the summer. Seven parents and community members were in attendance.
The five-year plan contract has been awarded to BBS Architects & Engineers of Patchogue. The contract award encompasses the building conditions survey, where BBS will identify the varying degrees in which aspects of the district’s buildings need repair and improvement.
Funds have been allotted for two scholarship accounts. The first scholarship, Island Trees Alumni Heroes has already been established. The second, the Joanna Ryan Memorial Music Scholarship is a new award.
The Island Trees Board of Education accepted a donation from the Island Trees Football Alumni Association in the amount of $2,500 to be used to beautify the William Henighan Memorial at Island Trees High School. The proposal is for the memorial area to be sodded and have a new sign, fence and sprinkler system installed. The Alumni Association will host its first annual football reunion on Saturday, Oct. 2 beginning at 8 a.m. at the high school. More than 100 district alumni are expected to attend. A special breakfast will honor past coaches and players, including a field rededication to William Henighan and a special memorial service to honor Claude Richards, an NYPD Bomb Squad member killed on 9/11. Contact Nick Tonno for additional information about the celebration at (516) 477-1892.
The approval has been made for certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to be present at all district home football games. Donald Epple and Matthew Epple have been selected as certified EMTs to cover all games at a rate of $60 per game.
The next regular public Island Trees Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 29 in the Stephen E. Karopczyc School Board Conference Room at 74 Farmedge Road in Levittown. The public meeting will begin at 7 p.m. All past and future meeting dates can be found on the district’s website, including meeting agendas and copies of each meeting’s minutes.
