Mystery Picture Still a Mystery
Billy Minicozzi guessed the plants in the mystery photo of Sept. 2 was of plants in front of Dodds & Eder. On a sports note he said, “I think it is time for the Mets to throw the towel in. I don’t think they will make the playoffs and it would be nice if the Yankees win the World Series.” He said it wouldn’t be great for himself, a big Mets fan, “But my friend David, at work, will be happy.”

We received an interesting email from Tony Pilla, now of Anniston, Alabama to share. Tony said, “Thanks for the acknowledgement for my knowing the picture of the old Oyster Bay High School gym ceiling in the Aug. 19 issue of the Enterprise Pilot. When I read the rest of the story regarding the house at 37 Hamilton Avenue, I should have guessed that one also.
“My parents lived at 51 Hamilton Avenue for many years. Growing up as kids, we used to play in the old field behind that house and behind the old A & P grocery store. The field is now the parking lot for Town Hall and the businesses on Audrey Avenue.
“When we played stickball in the lot, we used an old electrical pipe that ran along midway up on the movie theater as a marker for a home run.
“Jerry Mavros of the old Oyster Bay Restaurant was a member of the group that played back there. Those of us who still remain have many fond memories of those days. If only the kids today could experience those days, I think we would have a much better world,” said Tony Pilla.
