Pet Memorial Day Ceremonies
Hosted by Bideawee at its Pet Memorial Park, 3300 Beltagh Ave., Wantagh, at 1 p.m., as a loving tribute to departed companion pets that contributed to their owner’s lives. Speakers: Medea Berkman, Bideawee bereavement counselor, and Reverend Lynn Sullivan, associate pastor of the Garden City Community Church. Performances by Soh Young Lee-Segrado and Friends. The National Anthem will be sung by Alyssa Pallotta, a 4th grade student. Interpretive Dance by Youngok Hong dedicated to beloved pets. Highlights: music, congenial companionship, pet loss literature, light refreshments and more. Red carnation remembrance flowers will be distributed courtesy of the East Meadow Branch of the Municipal Credit Union.

LI Cruizin’ for a Cure Car Show
The only car show for the benefit of prostate cancer testing and education on Long Island will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.. at Capital One Bank, 275 Broadhollow Rd., corner of the LIE/Route 495 and Route 110 (Exit 49N), Melville. Volunteers, some of them prostate cancer survivors, are finalizing plans for the show to raise public awareness of prostate cancer, emphasize the need for its early detection and to raise funds for testing. South Nassau Communities Hospital will provide free onsite PSA blood-screening tests. The show will offer a fun-filled family outing featuring classic and antique cars, new hot rods, a vendor pavilion, food and entertainment including two a capella groups and young singing sensation Kayla Star. •Sept. 15: Healthcare Task Force. Play an active role in the development and implementation of the second Annual LI Wellness Challenge and bring the Challenge to Long Island Middle Schools. The Task Force is also working to keep small businesses up to date on the effects of the new Federal Healthcare Legislation and planning a Women’s Health Event in November. •Sept. 16: Small Business and Economic Development Task Force. The task force is currently developing a strategy to address the issue of the MTA Payroll Tax which has been levied upon all LI Companies by forming a coalition of those affected in a concerted effort to develop a mechanism to eliminate the tax. In order to maintain a balanced position, the task force will work closely with the Transportation Task Force which will study the potential impact of repeal of the MTA Payroll Tax on the Transportation system and work closely with the MTA to develop a solution that does not compromise the level of service. 9 to 10:30 a.m.
