Family Bingo Night

Boys and Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich members, their families, and friends will gather at the Clubhouse to celebrate “Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids” with a fun-filled Family Bingo Night. This free event is being hosted by the club’s Parents’ Council. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to all club members and their families. Prizes will be available for youngsters who win and shout out “B-I-N-G-O!” There will be refreshments available for purchase and families can pre-order dinner packages for the evening. The club is looking for parents to volunteer as Bingo callers and to assist with the distribution of prizes. Note that at least one participant must be a club member and that parents must provide supervision for their families and guests. Call Valerie Buscemi 922-9285, ext. 19.

2010 Public Concert Series

Presented by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory at 6 p.m. in the Grace Auditorium, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, One Bungtown Rd., Cold Spring Harbor. Program: Hahn-Bin, winner of the 2008-09 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Hahn-Bin earned his diploma in 2009 from the Juilliard School, where he worked with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho. He has been working with Mr. Perlman at the Perlman Music Program since 2002 and performed the Dvorak Piano Quintet with him at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2008. Hahn-Bin plays an 1825 J. F. Pressenda violin from the Mandell Collection of Southern California. In addition to playing the violin, Hahn-Bin works regularly on creating visual artworks and composing poetry. Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids

At Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club, 135 Forest Ave. Locust Valley, from 1 to 5 p.m. Rain or shine. There will be plenty of activities and entertainment for the entire family, including pony rides, carnival games and exciting inflatable rides. Deaf Comedienne Trix Bruce to Perform

Mill Neck Services announces a very special show with renowned deaf comedienne Trix Bruce at the Mill Neck Manor Deaf Education Center auditorium, 40 Frost Mill Rd., Mill Neck. An American Sign Language performer, teacher, workshop presenter and actress, Trix will perform a show entitled “The Hearing World Around Me,” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. At the live, one deaf-woman show, Trix will thrill the audience with her charismatic humor, experience and insight. A voice interpreter will be provided at the show. One RID CEU (Continuing Education Unit) clock hour will also be provided to interpreters. Flower Show

Head to Planting Fields Arboretum’s Burns Conference Center for the Mid Island Dahlia Society’s Dahlia Show from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 25 and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 26. The show features a dazzling display of dahlias to enjoy, dahlia experts to answer your questions, and magnificent bouquets that you can purchase. Admission: free with Planting Fields $8 parking fee. English Equivalents Workshop

Mill Neck Interpreter Service will host a workshop entitled “English Equivalents: Whoa! Train Zoom Gone. Did You See What She Signed? What Did She Mean by That and How Can I Say it in English?” featuring American Sign Language performer, teacher, workshop presenter and actress Trix Bruce. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mill Neck Manor Deaf Education Center auditorium, 40 Frost Mill Rd., Mill Neck. Sponsored by Bruce, the workshop is free to all MNIS interpreters. The fee for non-MNIS interpreters is $75. The Professional Studies program is offered for 0.6 CEUs at the little/no to some content level at the cost of $10 per participant (in addition to the workshop fee). Lunch will be provided. Michael Trama Memorial 5K Walk/Run

The First Annual Michael Trama Memorial 5K Walk/Run will be held at 9 a.m. at Centre Island Beach in Bayville. The charity fundraiser is in honor of Michael Trama who died in March 2010. He was a local coach, founder of Locust Valley Bayville Soccer Club and a coach to many of the children of the Locust Valley/Bayville families. Sponsored by numerous local businesses and community members, the event will benefit the educational fund for the children of Michael Trama. Concert

The First Presbyterian Church, E. Main St., welcome sGrammy Award winner Paul Sullivan in a concert for one night only at 7:30 p. m. Mr. Sullivan has enjoyed a richly varied and distinguished career as a composer and a pianist. As a soloist, with his trio, and as a member of the Paul Winter Consort, he has played concert tours in most of the United States and Europe, as well as Croatia, Israel, Costa Rica, and Japan. Walk in the Woods

Oct. 2: William Cullen Bryant Preserve, Roslyn Harbor. Explore the fascinating Pinetum with botanist Andrew Greller, who knows as much as anyone about this strange place. Golf Outing

There is still time to sign up for one of the most exciting fun-filled events planned by the Oyster Bay Republican Club. The club is running its 14th Annual Golf Outing at the Brookville Country Club. This event is open to men and women. Non-golfers can also participate by attending the cocktail hour and dinner. Enjoy 18 holes of golf as well as breakfast, cocktail reception, dinner, prizes and more. The day begins at 9 a.m. with registration and breakfast. Tee-off with shotgun starts begins at 10:30 a.m. The registration fee is $300 for golf; $100 for cocktails and dinner only. “First Thursdays Night On The Town” features art, food, wine, and music. Other businesses and sites in town will be displaying artwork. Local restaurants will be exhibiting art and are offering a percentage off on meals, wine tastings and more. Live music entertainment is scheduled. Cafes and restaurants will remain open late for dessert and coffee. Also on Nov. 4 and Dec. 2.
