Save the Children LI Council

Halloween Parade

As a continuation of a longstanding Daler tradition, the Farmingdale High School senior class is preparing for its annual Halloween Parade. The parade begins at the rear of the high school, 150 Lincoln St., and proceeds down Woodward Pky., ending at the Woodward Parkway Elementary School. This parade is a chaperoned event that begins at 9:15 a.m. and concludes at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Halloween Fest

Albany Avenue is holding its second annual Halloween Fest on the back field from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Chili’s is providing hot dogs and hamburgers and over 200 people have already signed up to come. Kids will be dressed in their costumes and there will be crafts, tattoos and a DJ. The Family Fun Committee, which runs the Halloween Fest, has paired with the Eve Foundation, a nonprofit organization that deals with domestic violence education. The foundation was created by a family in the Farmingdale community in memory of their daughter. Eve was a graduate of Albany Avenue and gave back to her community through her career as a social worker. Canned/boxed goods for those in need will be collected. Donations are being brought to the main lobby of Albany Avenue throughout the month of October or to the admission table at the Halloween Fest.

Holiday Chinese Auction

A fun-filled night is planned. There will be a great many gifts raffled off, free coffee and cake and one free sheet of chances, Super Sweeps, Big Sweeps, toys table, lottery ticket raffle, 50/50 raffle. Money doll and Let’s Make a Deal. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the 110 Bingo Hall, 585 Broadhollow Rd., Melville (across from Kentucky Fried Chicken, one quarter mile from Adventureland, same side of street). Food court available. Friday, November 5

Turkey and Trimmings Drive

Long Islanders will be able to help the many LI families in need this holiday season by donating turkeys and holiday dry goods during the second Annual Bethpage Federal Credit Union “Turkey & Trimmings” drive to benefit LI Harvest. The food drive will include daylong and after-school activities for family fun including raffles, children’s activities and special guests. Drop off frozen turkeys, holiday dry goods, supermarket “turkey” receipts and gift certificates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the front parking lot of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union, 899 South Oyster Bay Rd., Bethpage, or at any of Bethpage’s branch locations.

•Caregiver Support Group offered by the LI Alzheimer’s Foundation at Brandywine Senior Living at Huntington Terrace, 70 Pinelawn Rd., Melville. This professionally facilitated group meets on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and allows participants opportunities to share feelings and strategies related to caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Exhibits

•In a new exhibition, on view to the public free-of-charge through Oct. 22, curators Beth Giacummo and John Cino have reached out to Long Island artists for a new group show entitled “Organic Abstractions.” The exhibit will be at the Briarcliffe College Art Gallery, 1055 Stewart Ave., Bethpage. Hours: Monday-Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturay 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Fridays and Sundays. Free parking and admission.

•The Lockhorns Art Exhibit on display in Memorial Gallery, Sinclair Hall, Farmingdale State College (accessible to persons with mobility impairments) through Nov. 5. Artist lecture on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. in Gleeson Hall. Gallery hours: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The award-winning Lockhorns panel gently spoofs the state of marital bliss, poking fun at the foibles of both partners to the amusement of a worldwide audience in more than 500 newspapers. Their snappy repartee and witty banter has made them a perennial favorite. The bickering couple’s daily bouts began in 1968, as the “Lockhorns of Levittown,” with the comic collaboration of cartoonist Bill Hoest and his wife, Bunny. Call 631-420-6118 or 631-420-2181.
