Join Sprout at Roosevelt Field
Sprout, the first 24-hour preschool television channel available on TV, on demand and online for kids ages 2 to 5 and their parents and caregivers, will host Barney’s Sprouterrific Playdate at Roosevelt Field as they search for the country’s next preschool weather reporter who will make his or her big meteorological debut on the nationally televised, live Sunny Side Up Show, a popular preschool program on Sprout. The show provides a welcoming and fun environment where children and their families gather each day to interact live with the hosts, share birthdays, greetings, ideas, crafts and weather reports from all across the country. Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde
Presented by the Nassau Community College Department of Theatre and Dance through Nov. 7 and Nov. 11 through Nov. 14. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Written by Moises Kaufman, the play chronicles the artist’s incendiary real-world trial for “gross indecency” that captured the attention of Victorian society. Wilde, considered the greatest playwright and humorist of 19th-century London, faced three court trials stemming from a relationship with the handsome and much younger Lord Alfred Douglas. Ultimately, Wilde is convicted of and imprisoned. Drawing from real-life trial transcripts and Wilde’s words, the play looks at the eternal battle between art and morality while emphasizing the way that the powers-that-be try to exercise control over people’s private lives. Faith Versus Reason Discussion
The Institute of Interfaith Dialogue at Molloy College will host “A Contradictory Discussion Examining Faith Versus Reason” at 3 p.m. in the Hays Theatre, Wilbur Arts Center on the Molloy College Campus, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. Join WABC radio commentator and co-host of Religion on the Line, Kevin McCormack and Brian Quinn as they engage in a discussion on two timely thought-provoking and influential literary works – Karen Armstrong’s The Case for God and Christopher Hitchens’ God Is Not Great. They will discuss and examine the literary works in detail. Irish Cultural Society
Meeting at 8 p .m. at the Garden City Library, 60 Seventh St. Free and open to the public. The Cill Cais Players will perform Peggy O’Reilly’s Purse by Seamus Burke, a one-act comedy directed by Pat Rooney. The players are noted for their ability to transform a simple stage into a recognizable room from an Irish cottage. They are true amateurs in the original sense of the word, that is, people who love something, in this instance, people who love the theater and its ability to transform an audience.
The Transition Network
The role of The Transition Network, an association of women 50+, is to be there for its members as they navigate from professional careers to the next phase of their lives. The network offers assistance and support as its members travel through these transformations with the goal of reinventing retirement. Blood Drive
Mercy Medical Center, 1000 N. Village Ave., Rockville Centre, invites and encourages members of the community to participate in a Blood Drive to support LI Blood Services from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the first floor of the St. Anne’s building on the hospital campus. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75 who is in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Healthy individuals over 75 can donate blood if they present written permission from their physician obtained within two weeks of their donation. War and Remembrance: A Veteran’s Day Tribute
The Northwinds Symphonic Band, conducted by Helen P. Bauer, will open its fourth season at the Cradle of Aviation, at 2:30 p.m. The band will honor veterans past and present, performing a variety of patriotic standards and new publications that pay tribute to the rich history of our country and American military personnel. The program features several exciting and innovative selections including Gettysburg the 3rd Day, a thrilling re-enactment of the battle replete with a powerful cannonade and poignant aftermath. The Light Eternal musically recounts the story of The Four Chaplains who perished on an American troop transport vessel during WWII. Soprano Catherine Goldman will be featured in A Place Called Home by Alan Mencken. Northwinds will also be performing In Their Honor by Glen Head composer Carl Strommen. Dr. Peter K. Lynch will narrate Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and clarinetist G. Edward Smith will play music by many famous composers. Admission is free.
Sisterhood/Men’s Club Meeting

Presented by Molloy College’s Siena Women’s Center and hosted by Dr. Cheryl Camenzuli and Dr. Lillian Bozak DeLeo of the center at 3 p.m. in the Hays Theatre on the Molloy College Campus, 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. This year’sfeatured guest will be Dr. Maureen O’Connell, assistant professor of theology, Fordham University, who will be presenting “If These Walls Could Talk: Community Muralism and Social Justice.” During her presentation, Dr. O’Connell will discuss the theme as she presents slides of various murals and discusses her experiences interacting with the communities in which these murals are located. ThanksGiving Ball
Family & Children’s, one of LI’s largest human care agencies, is holding its annual ThanksGiving Ball for at the Garden City Hotel. This annual dinner dance raises much needed funds for the agency whose mission is to care for Long Islanders in need. Attendees will celebrate the season of giving by enjoying cocktails, live music, gourmet dining, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Honorees, Joe Patellaro and Sandy Claghorn, supporters of Family & Children’s, will receive the James J. Harnett Humanitarian Award. They work to spread news of the agency’s efforts on behalf of LI’s most vulnerable children, seniors, veterans, families and communities. Reopens with a gala to celebrate its second anniversary. Featured entertainment will be the veteran LI-based band of contemporary Christian recording artists, Eyewitness.
