The Nassau County High School Tennis Tournament was recently held at Oceanside High School and Garden City High School’s Jacqueline “Jax” Raynor was seeded second overall going into the weekend of competition. Jax won her first round on Saturday 6-2, 6-0 as well as her first match on Sunday, 6-1, 6-3.
After only a 45-minute break, it was time to face her top-seeded Syosset opponent in the finals. Jax fell behind a break early on in the first set, but battled her way back on serve at 4-5. It was then one long point after another bringing the two to a tie at 6 all. Jax’s game got stronger with every point and she was able to win the tiebreak 7-4. It was all Raynor from then on. Jacqueline finished the second set at 6-2, taking the Nassau County Singles Title for the first time. Jax is pictured here after the tournament with her championship trophies.
Jacqueline continued on to represent Nassau County in the state tournament in Syracuse, NY, Nov. 5 through the 8, where she defeated two competitors before being eliminated in the quarter finals.
Garden City’s talented tennis singles champion will continue her tennis career at Quinnipiac University where she has earned a full scholarship.
