The OBHS Cross Country Team County Champions: 4th Straight Year

The Boys Cross Country team qualified for the New York State meet at the County Championships on Nov. 6. After winning the Class C County Championship for the fourth year straight, the boys’ team has high expectations for the State meet. Senior Joe LaCorte was only a freshman when the boys’ team began the streak, which includes 4 undefeated seasons against team within the division. Joe captured the individual county title for Class C, and was able to place 25th overall with a time of 17:10, his best time ever at Bethpage State Park. Joseph was voted All-Division along with Steven Tortora, Chris Kulis, Nick Mavros, TJ Butler, and Patryk Tauter. Andrew Kenn and Daniel Eng hope to make an impact at the state meet, by running their best times this year.

Four Members of Girls Team Qualify for the State Meet

Nicole Giannetti, Lauren Burke, Linda Cameron and Brooke Mahoski qualified for the state meet as individuals, after finishing second to Friends Academy for the team championship. Giannetti earned All-Conference honors earlier in the week, had hopes of winning a team championship so that fellow runners LeeAnne Dillmann (senior and co-captain), Christine Drexler, Lizzy Gurdus and Adrianna Henriquez could compete. “Friends was better than us today,” the freshman sensation mused, “but they are graduating some of their talent and we will be a very strong team next year.”

Nicole Giannetti, Lauren Burke and eighth-grade phenomenon Linda Cameron were voted All-Division by the Nassau Cross Country coaches.

The four girls going to the states hope to match their personal records in Pawling, New York.
