Nassau Suffolk Horsemen’s Association and Muttontown Horsemen’s Association Host Equine Event
The Sixth Annual Muttontown Horsemen’s Association together with the Nassau Suffolk Horsemen’s Association held an Open House Event at the Muttontown Preserve on Sunday, Sept. 26. This equine community festival was free to attendees and was intended to showcase various equestrian disciplines and educate the public about horses. The weather was perfect and free pony rides were provided by Lakewood Stables of Hempstead to introduce the pleasure of riding to many happy children.
This could not have been accomplished without the sponsors, chief of which is Agway/Chestnut Vale Feed of Hicksville, which has been the main contributor for the past eight years. The organizations were also thrilled to have Alex Nichols Agency of Oceanside and the Ruffian Equine Medical Center of Elmont join as sponsors, making the day a true success.
In addition to the varied vendor booths, there was a truck from Ralph’s Ices of Oyster Bay and Sarivole Organic Bakery of Brooklyn there to provide dessert options for attendees with a sweet tooth. Potato chips were graciously donated by Long Island’s own North Fork Potato Chips.
Spectators of all ages relaxed on chairs and tables generously loaned by Susan Harvey. The performances began with a salute to the flag and the National Anthem, presented by the Nassau Suffolk Horsemen’s Association Color Guard, led by two of our Nassau County’s finest Mounted Police and their steeds and the NSHA Rough Riders Troop. Following closely was the Spirit of America, Islip Horsemen’s Mounted Drill Team, whose performance is always exciting to watch. The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Team also performed, thrilling the audience with their skills, followed by The Smithtown Hunt Hound Demonstration. Other exhibitors included My Shine Therapeutic Riding Program, The New York Natural Equestrians and carriage driver Karolina Zemekis, owner of Regal Carriage Company.
Long Island Power Equipment of Hicksville donated a Toro Power Snow Shovel which was raffled and won by Vivian Chan. Agway donated two gift buckets filled with horse supplies, which were won by Gina Roseen and Maria. The lucrative 50/50 Raffle went to an extremely happy winner, Bobbi Boccio. Jericho Apple Cider donated apples and cider to complete the day.
In all, approximately 275 attendees turned out to enjoy the displays of horsemanship and tasty food, with family and friends, surrounded by the preserve’s scenic vistas.
A very special “thank you” goes out to all of the very important volunteers and exhibitors. This entertaining, fun-filled day could not have taken place without their contributions.
