LI Festival of Trees

This Holiday Extravaganza event is renowned for its spectacular array of designer-decorated trees and gingerbread village. Featuring continuous live entertainment, Santa, vendor marketplace, children’s activities, Department 56 village and display, raffle drawings and more. All trees and gingerbread are for sale. All proceeds benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Association of NC and the Cradle of Aviation Museum. NCC 2010 Cultural Program

Nassau Community College exciting and timely events. The programs, which take place in the College Center Building, are free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled. Program: Creator of the hit MTV documentary series World of Jenks, 24-year-old Andrew Jenks challenges audiences to knock down conventional stereotypes by seeking out worlds that are otherwise foreign to them. Each week, he immerses himself into a different young person’s world, uncovering incredible stories and people along the way. Using his own experiences and clips from his MTV show, Jenks brings a fresh view on life. 11 a.m.

•Anxiety and Depression Group, a free self-help group for anxiety, panic disorder, depression, OCD and other nervous fears now meets every Thursdays at 8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, corner of Chester Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. Through the Recovery International process, members learn to manage stress, panic, anxiety, depression, anger, irrational fears, phobias, compulsions, obsessions and other emotional or behavioral problems. Members also learn how to face and manage psychosomatic symptoms such as heart palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, sweats, fatigue, headaches, numbness, chest pressure and sleep problems. All group leaders are trained lay volunteers who have experienced some type of difficulty with an emotional problem and practice the Recovery International method of self-help. •Physically Disabled Adults Support Group conducted on the second Thursday of the month by St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center at EFLI, 506 Stewart Ave., Garden City, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The group is for men and women who are physically disabled and provides information and support to enable people to get on with their lives. •Zonta Club of LI, member of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization with a local club. Members help advance the status of women and are involved in many community service activities. The name Zonta is word taken from the Sioux and stands for honesty, trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and understanding. Exhibit

Nassau Community College’s Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery, Room 140 of the College Center Building, presents Accelerate through Dec. 22. For this exhibit, emerging artists aged 16 to 25 were asked to consider the many personal reasons that accelerate the desire to create. This mixed media exhibition is organized by VSA Arts – the International Organization on Arts and Disability, an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, with support from Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
