On Saturday, Nov. 6 the Nassau County Cross Country Championships were held at Bethpage State Park. The race is comprised of runners from large or “A” schools and small or “B” schools.
The weather was perfect as approximately 200 athletes left the starting line with hopes of becoming county champs in either the team or individual categories. All the runners in this race earned the right to compete at this prestigious event.
John Duffy and four teammates from Island Trees were among the runners. The grueling run through the woods and various terrains proved to be a walk in the park for Duffy as he won the Nassau County “B” title.
Duffy ran the race in 16 minutes and 23 seconds setting a new personal best and Island Trees record. He was scheduled to run again at the New York State Championships held on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Pawling, NY.
